1998 Tour Appreciation

coach pjcoach pj Posts: 215
I have been listening and watching a lot of the '98 shows. I cannot get enough of them. The set lists are unreal. Long shows, not marathons, totally awesome from start to finish. I re-watched the shows I went to from that year and am amazed. If anyone has some time watch the Sacramento show please spend the time, it is totally worth it. Incredible set list and overall playing by the band. Does anyone have access to the audio from that show? I would love to be able to listen to it more.

Thanks everyone, have a great day.

All killer, no filler when you're just playing songs from the first five albums!

I only saw them 3 times in 1998 but all of them were great.  I’d be cool with them cutting back their current shows to around two hours like in 1998 if it meant we got a proper tour with a bunch of cities.  Not every show needs to be 3+ hour.

+1 on the Sacramento show being absolutely fantastic! I wish they were able to release that one and the rest of the ‘98 shows as official bootlegs!

Pittsburgh 8/25/98 was my first PJ show.  The Yield album and seeing them for the first time saved my life.  I was in a really dark fucking place at the time and that album and that 1st of 31 PJ shows pulled me out of it.  I listen to that bootleg often.  Getting to play that for my son is an amazing feeling.

Eh.  There are very good shows.  There are meh shows.  And there are definitely a couple of train-wrecks.   It definitely is more pleasant to hear some of the songs that need a proper pacing be at or closer to that pacing.  Given to Fly most significantly.

Would definitely welcome more vaults from this tour, specifically

    7.16
    7.18
    8.26
    8.28
    9.3

I’ll still take MSG Night 1 over a lot of current day shows.  Being honest.  Technical nightmare and they didnt live up to the moment but setlist is great.  Vocals are great.

I don't go to shows for setlists, I go for performances.  That night was awful.  Barrie had problems, and several others on leg one.  It is like every other tour.  Some nights are hot, some nights are not.

Perceptions are funny. I’ve never walked out of a Pear Jam show thinking it was awful.  I was there both nights at MSG in 1998 and left both shows with a huge smile.

There were feedback issues for Stone throughout the end of the main set, the overall sound mix became problematic as the board engineers tried to compensate for the equipment problems on stage, including mic fails.  I enjoyed that they played Fuckin Up in response to close it out.  It was a pleasant nod to shit happens.   And the fringe benefit was that they tore the roof off the next night in response.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss.  We had no idea the sound engineers were having trouble with the mix.  Sounded fine on the floor, but perceptions vary widely.  Thanks for giving an explanation.
