John Frusciante

Surprised to not find a thread for John here... I know there are many fans of his on these boards.

Just wanted to share this good news. Now, I know what you’re thinking; “alt nation clickbait blahdy blah”. This is legit. It’s not a solo tour announcement or stylistic redux or anything, but The Empyrean is getting a vinyl reissue for the 10th anniversary. There is a link to the preorder.

Anyways, I love this album and for those who don’t know, both the original and first reissue vinyl copies of this go for crazy money. I’ll be glad to have a copy on vinyl. i didnt see a track listing. Here’s hoping that Here, Air and Ah Yom are included... doubt it tho.

Now, if we can also get Shadows Collide, Inside of Emptiness and the Will to Death reissued, and Smile while they’re at it, I’ll be a happy bunny.

Cheers!

Yes, fantastic news. I have the reissues of Curtains and The Will to Death and need to add another to my collection. The bulk of his solo collection, particularly his high output time period, is fantastic work.

Wow, I can't believe it already sold out. It is a pre order and even tho I expected it to be limited, I never thought it would be to that extent

John Frusciante is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. I miss him. Hope he's doing well, whatever he's up to these days!

He is my favorite guitarist everrr. His emotion is raw. I really wish he would play again and ROCK it like he used to. I don't think this will ever happen again because I feel he has evolvoled eons past the rest of us assh*les. Maybe one day I'll find him in a nondescript nightclub playing guitar and singing...

I think he's making electronic music these days. I'm paraphrasing, but I recall a comment about having done everything he could do on a guitar and stepping away for something radically new.

Yeah he’s been doing the EDM thing for a while now. And has said that he felt he had reached a level of mastery with the guitar. But I think he is the type of artist to grow in and out of things. We’ve seen this throughout his career. He’ll be inspired, focus (literally) all of his energy on whatever it is until he gets bored, and then he’ll move on, rarely looking back. I very much doubt that he would return to the Chili Peppers ever again. But, he did record with Dewa Budjana in the last year or two - those tracks were recently released (most notable for his lead vocals, which were really impressive). Also played some lead guitar on the tracks.

For me, being a Froosh fan is very different than being a Pj fan. I don’t listen to EDM. And other than PJ, he is probably my favorite musician of all time, so sometimes I really miss visiting the space that new John music would occupy for me. No other artist really challenges me or affects me the same way. But I do appreciate how he continues to grow, trusts his inspiration and only creates and shares what he is truly compelled to. He and Neil Young, in my opinion, are the very best at this. So, there is truly no telling what his future might hold. I am sure there will be other albums like the Empyrean, more like PBX, maybe more like the ones we saw in 2004. In fact, these probably already exist, along with many, many others. He just doesn’t often feel the need to share.

I try to let the way I feel about his music inform the way I feel about Pearl Jam’s music - I’d love more albums and tours, but I would like it  to be meaningful to the band, as it is to me. Truly, I hope every artist feels this way about their craft. I’ve been a musician for more than half my life - never have I felt the need to record my original music, or perform it, share or collaborate. That may change someday, but if it doesn’t, I honestly won’t feel any differently about the music I’ve made for myself. It still has meaning to me.
