Which album is best?

Now this may seem stupid, but i really want to know. I have Ten and i absolutley love it. I just recently got into pearl jam (yes, i'm ashamed to admit that) and i want another album. I'm gonna end up getting all of them anyway, but i was just wondering which one was best. So if you could give you ropinion, that would be great. Thanks.

  • There's isn't a "best"...but my current favorite is Yield.

Well, it's like this for me.

Ten - Great because it's old school PJ, some really classic songs.

Vs - A continuation on Ten, better rock songs and to me this is where PJ really begin to find themselves.

Vitalogy - The beginning of the experimentation, a much different approach and they pass with flying colors.

No Code - Least listener friendly album to me, You'll need to be into PJ greatly to 'get' it. The percussion is great.

Yield - Back to basics but, equally as great. Tons of great melodies. Collectively probably their best album to me.

Binaural - Hard to categorize, lots of greats. The 'binaural' recording makes it worth while alone. The songs compliment each other very well.

Riot Act - Back to rocking it, Ed really shines on this album, it's a really raw recording and it's what Pearl Jam is all about.

GET THEM ALL. I'd get them all in order to really get it.

Vs - more aggresive then Ten, great follow up album. However I would leave this record till the end. Stand out tracks - Daughter, dissedent, leash,RVM, Animal

Vitalogy - Either loved or loathed. Experimental, challenging but rewarding when u get it. Stand out tracks - Not For You, Nothingman, Whipping, Corduroy,Betterman, Immortality

No Code - this album you should buy next, it has every thing from Neil Young influenced rockers, to eastern tinged beauty.

Stand out tracks - Who You Are, In My Tree, Smile, Off He Goes, Present Tense, Hail HAil

Yeild - easiest to digest of all the records. great summery feel good vibe to the album

Stand out - Wishlist,Faithful, G T Fly, MFC, In Hiding

Binaural - best record for the 0's - very rocking but also moments of beauty

stand out - Sleight of Hand, Light Years, Greivance, Of the Girl, Parting Ways

Riot Act - good solid record but a few weak tracks.

Stand out - Cant Keep, Save You, Thumbing My way, 1/2 Full, All or None

If you get them in the order they were released...maybe leaving at least a week between purchases you'll catch up nicely...
...don't forget to include Live On Two Legs, Beyonara and all the DVDs...
...Then you can start to buy and trade bootlegs...if you have any money left join the Ten Club and buy a T-Shirt...

I wish I could discover it all over again... The first time you hear Present Tense it will blow your mind... enjoy:D

i'm torn between nocode, ten, vs, and riot act.

but they are all really good they don't have a "best album"

ten-old school has a nice opening combination of hard core guitar with once, even flow etc. then mellows out but in a great way. lyrics are great but not as great as others.

vs.-this is where pj starts to get political and experiments more with acoutsics. lyrics are among the best on this album. indifference is jsut so beautiful.

vitalogy- a lot of people seem to like this cd. but i dont' like it that much....well as compared to others. all the songs on here are SIGNIFICANTLY better live. but not for you is a huge stand out

no code- this got me into pearl jam. i see 2 groups of people with this cd. those that liked it and it got them into pearl jam. and those who think u will only get it if u are hard core pearl jam. i love the mellowness yet soft blend of great music. i just wish there was more politics.

yield- has a huge awsome 3 of wishlist, given to fly, and evolution. it is probably the most well rounded. but for some reason to me it just doesn't come out as strong as the others

binaural-among the most acoustic and mellow out of all. thin air, light years, nothing as it seems are just a beautiful trio. this one has the best love and poetry out of all of them and has some nice politics with insignificance and grievance

riot act- along with vs. probably the most political. very good. this is where pearl jam really came into its own. it is so good cause of some beautiful lyrics yet they are great enough so we can still try and interperate them.

so yeah u can't really pick a "best" but i prefer concerts. best concert ive ever heard was either toronto or east troy 2003.

So that is how I learned the lesson that everyone is alone. And your eyes must do some raining if you are ever going to grow. But when crying don't help and you can't compose yourself. It is best to compose a poem, an honest longing or simple song of hope.

  • Ok, thanks everyone. Well i decided to go in order and i got Vs. question, ive been hearing about bootlegs alot...what are they? i bought a cd that is called pearl jam state college pennsylvania and it is in a really rough cardboard package that the discs just slip into. The cardboard is just brown, but it has a few small one colour designs. There was more in the store just like this, except different little designs on them and different locations. What is this?

I wrote this to you in another post, but in case you miss it:

Nearly all of the bootlegs from the 2000 tour were released in stores.
From the 2003 tour: Perth, Tokyo, State College, MSG 1&2, and Boston 3 were released in stores and the rest were released online for a limited time.

If you want to start collecting, look for people on this board and other boards to trade with or do a B&P with...you're collection will increase before you know it at a very low cost! have fun.
