21 yrs since MonkeyWrench Radio

great memories of leaving a party early so i could be home at my boombox to press the record button.  I had a stack of Maxell tapes ready to go.

That was a really fun night.  Heard some Yield tunes for the first time that are still some of my favorites.

Does anyone have the MW rant that opened the broadcast? I was looking for that the other day and cant find it anywhere.
  • I turned 21 when it hit midnight that night but there was no place I wanted be besides at home with my radio and blank cassettes. Partied the next day.

    Also a reminder that it’s been 21 years since I turned 21...

Man, I remember how excited I was for that! I still have my cassettes of it in storage, maybe it’s time to dig ‘em out for a little trip down memory lane (if the tapes haven’t turned to dust at this point 😉)

Thanks for the reminder. Streaming the whole show right now. I remember that my local rock station played the entire album a few days before it was released. I sat up at the kitchen table with my boombox while I did my German homework for HS. Didn't get to hear this show until years later when I had internet access at College.
    It's a hopeless situation...

I lived for this. There are things that the digital world can't replicate and it's this kind of anticipation - the tapes, record, midnight....kind of like midnight releases and standing in line for tickets. All experiences key to fandom.

Just imagine if they did another live broadcast like this, but on SiriusXM Pearl Jam Radio.
  • Those radio shows had such a distinct sound, I wish we had versions of Faithfull, No Way, etc played live on them

No do it oldschool and pirate the airwaves.  That is what made it cool.  They could only broadcast for so long before they got in trouble.

I often wonder why they don't do something like this now.  They have their own freakin' radio station!  Would be a cool chance for them to give some exposure for some other bands they like.  EV can rant some politics.  I'd be in.

Listened to that live too.  so cool, especially in the days desperate to get some PJ.

Also reminds me of watching the midnight debut of DTE video on MTV.  Had to make sure the VCR recorded.

Anyone remember the mini stroke the girl had announcing the video.  :D

Ahh the good ol’ days of Ed driving from venue to venue in that van broadcasting after the shows.

Yes but now, well close to a decade, they have two .. 24/7 radio stations of their own on SiriusXM (CH22) & PJRadio ( http://pearljam.com/radio/ ) at their fingertips. They can do pretty much whatever their hearts desire. Not sure why they don't air a special like this. Get in the booth and kick out some jams. Bring along friends & play their favourite tunes on air.
