    I probably don't know enough about it but I don't like the idea of the gov't funding either SpaceX or Blue Origin

    It is confusing trying to keep track of who is up to what, but the reality is that NASA doesn't have the capabilities to launch rockets.  They were paying the Russians to send US astronauts into space for a while.  I don't have much faith in Boeing.  SpaceX is the leader in spaceflight right now and the foreseeable future until Blue Origin gets back up (hopefully), although Artemis is a much bigger payload than typical.

    Personally, I think our money is better spent on telescopes, be they earth based or positioned in space.  Probes would be priority 2, and then a moon base.  Mars colonization is a pipedream in our lifetime.  Asteroid detection and defense is much more impactful to the survival of all species of life.
