Sickening "Sacrifice" of 9 month old baby girl

The father claimed the 9 month old daughter was possessed by demons and "sacrificed" her by throwing her in the water to drown.
So many calling for the death penalty to both homeless parents and their 4 year old son has been put into care.
This is in Australia and we don't have the death penalty. Even though the mother was present and knew the plan to "sacrifice" the baby she has not been charged and just put into the mental health system?
I can't even fathom anyone doing this..
What are your thoughts?
Should this be punishable by death?

    Shard probably.
Just like my neighbour who is accusing my other neighbour of hiding his ex-girlfriend. Psychosis.

    Drug induced paranoia perhaps?

And regardless of his condition... the world can't stand to benefit in any way from the loser using valuable oxygen and other resources- he can go.

It's really stupid to call for the death penalty in a country that doesn't have the death penalty. And it renders the question about whether they should be put to death moot. If it didn't, my answer would of course be no. No civilized society takes part in that practice.
