1000th Show Update - Accurate count discussion

in The Porch
Happy Halloween Friends:
As I take in one of the longest PJ concerts ever (Spectrum 09) via the website this morning, I got to thinking about the question of how many shows they've actually done. Less than two years ago, JA was interviewed on a podcast with the question of "So you are approaching 1000 shows, any big plans?" and he replied (sic) "Kelly will definitely have something big planned." At the time of that interview, they still had total shows posted on the tours page and the number was hovering around 960. The good ole PJ Stat Tracker currently has it at 1,028. I am wondering if 10C quietly scrubbed the total number from the site as it was not an accurate count. If we are still below a grand, then I'd guess we'd be in the mid 980's.

SHOW COUNT: (164) 1990's=3, 2000's=53, 2010/20's=108, US=118, CAN=15, Europe=20 ,New Zealand=4, Australia=5
Mexico=1, Colombia=1
But many of those are not really shows
RNR Induction = not a show
9.23.15 Colbert = not a show
Fallon 4x = not a show
SNL 4x = not a show
Letterman 5x = not a show
The Who Honors = not a show
AOL Session = not a show
There are more, one could even argue the bridge school shows are just mini benefit appearances not pearl jam shows.

Or # of shows/concerts?

For a band that prides itself on live versions of their songs, it's unexpected.
Good point
Their career is also about where the Dead were when Jerry passed. They were at about 2500 shows IIRC.

A full set changes through time. Now 15 songs wouldn’t be a full set, but in 1992 it could pass for one.
tv shows
record Store sets
mtv awards set
unplugged
singles party
monkeywrench/self pollution radio sets
storytellers
vh1 who honors show
rrhof sets
aol sessions
target center
oracle private show
letterman show
I think the unplugged, storytellers, Oracle, and letterman could be considered concerts

If im not mistaken, on AOL Sessions is Ed singing with headphones? That shouldnt count.
"Made" is definitely a good choice of words there, as PJs only release in 9 years, LB did a touch over half a million units sold iirc.
They can gross almost as much in one day playing MSG if they charged an average ticket price of $225. Plus merch.
Go Cougs.

I agree. The internet claims each in the band is worth around $100 million. They have earned their youthful semi retirement
But father time moves fast. What has been a conscious decision the last 14 or so years to be a sometimes part time band, in a few years they each will be looking at a huge birthday milestone
Not soon after that, the decision to take it slow will no longer be voluntary. How many years after that can Mike solo like he does?
Watching some of the 2018 shows, the joy Ed seems to have climbing into the crowd, their legacy of the live performance and everything related (boots, merch, rabid fans, posters etc.)...
They would have noticed the clock ticking by now.
