Preaching to the choir I know....

...but flippers suck. They have taken all of the fun out of collecting. And it used to be so much fun....

I would be happy to see supply meet demand. But until that happens this is the game to be played for iso's

Have patience. They’ll shake loose eventually. I think there were more available than people thought there would be.
  • Just wait until some of these folks SO's find out how much in debt they are and will be 'forced' to sell off all the shit they bought this past tour. Hang tight. Already an uptick in FS threads this past month. Just in time for those cc statements to arrive home right?

If someone is just looking for a souvenir, there were plenty of items easily acquired at the shows and now a bunch of posters available in the shop. Items selling for far above their face value are the minority. If someone's "collecting" tastes just so happen to coincide with all the high-demand stuff, I don't really have any sympathy.

Agree. The problem is people want what they can’t have. If it’s easy to get (like posters in the shop) they don’t want it. That doesn’t apply to all, but most.

And collecting isnt supposed to be easy! Part of the fun collecting is the chase. Win some you lose some.

Oh...I like the chase. I have met some great folks by making trades and purchases here. But when it's all about the money...a $35 lighter going for $200, $300 or more makes it not whatsoever about the chase. It's all about the money.

Of course it's about the money. You're playing a consumerist game. There's nothing spiritually pure about amassing a pile of posters, lighters, records, etc.

Spiritually enlightening? No...probably not. However I don't think I am playing a consumerist game either. But your words, and the words of others here, have caused me to stop and take stock (metaphorically speaking...not actually looking at my collection) and possibly giving a lot of it up. Still makes me sad though...it did used to be much more about the search...the chase if you will...and a whole lot less about the money. I bought my first poster at a Pearl Jam show for $20. I almost didn't stop...people were walking by the table without even a glance. I bought just one and it's framed now. Makes me happy to look at it...remembering the day and the show. Of course if i had bought the stack of posters on that table I could probably buy a new car with the proceeds if I were to sell them on today's market. I bought my first lighter at a EV show and thinking to myself "Why in the HELL am I buying a lighter?! I don't even smoke..." But for me it's the same experience...I look at it and I remember the show and shaking Eddie's hand at the end of the show. I thought it'd be fun to collect his lighters as he released him....

    Silly me.
