HELP! What does Eddie sing at end of Present Tense???

One of my fav PJ songs - Present Tense - I've checked many lyric sites, etc. and listened oh so carefully, but after the song builds up to the upbeat end and all of the chorus lyrics are spoken, Eddie sings something under the music. Something that sounds like "I see the ...." a few times and then the band pounds it out and the song comes full circle.

Anyone know what he sings there? Thx.

  • Lol, I've had the same dilemma since I first heard the song. No one seems to know what the fuck they're singing. It's a beautiful melody though, no need for accurate lyrics. I used to think it had "Yoda" in there somewhere....but when I sing along I'll just settle for "I see but you don't".
To myself I surrender, to the one I'll never please.
  • I wish I knew, but I don't...
  • I don't know how to use Sound Forge very well... but I have been messing around with that section trying to bring the vocals out better.
The left channel and the right channel do not say the same things though.

The first thing they say is too faint for me to understand anything after "I'll see your."
The second thing they say sounds a lot like "I'll see your woman."
The third third thing they say sounds a lot like "I'll see your lover."
The fourth thing sounds like they stop at "I'll see your" and go into "Ohh."

If someone else could bring the words out better, I would like hear them more clearly.

Here is the modified section of the song for you to listen to.
    Present Tense
To hear the words best, I would recommend turning the bass really low.
Chasing a trail of smoke and reason.
  • all i hear is "Let's see the whole world... Let's see the whole world"

it's what i always thought it was... and it makes sense in the context of the song... but that's just me.
"Nobody is ever promised tomorrow. Increase the peace."

  • i cant really tell..
possibly says the words: 'i see the'...'lover', or 'light on', or maybe 'a secret..lover?' or 'no secret lover' i dont know.

wow i have been no help..:)
Situations get fucked up and turned around sooner or later...
  • Listened to it 100 times now and the only conclusion I come to is it's either not English or it's total jibberish.
  • I'd seperate the left and right channels for everyone, but I don't know how do do that without it playing in stereo.

I think it's "I see the light on"

what sound bite did you use, from the album or?

not sure but do have a tendency to think it sounds a bit more like

    "hey secret..(sumthing)
or "hey seeker..(kind of drawn out).

anyway not much help huh? would be curious to know if thats the album version because I definitely don't hear it that well on mine
  • Everyone hears something different... this is messed up.

  • or is it? maybe thats the best part
more messed up is that i hear something different everytime :-)
so I edited this based on one more listen

anyway i listened one more time and this is as close as i can get without going over

    "hey secret girrrrrrrl
    hey seeeeekeeer"
    "hey secret sorrrrrooooooow
    "hey secret girrrrll"

the extra letters are to express where the words are drawn out a bit. listen and see what you think. thats my best guess...

actually i think the girl bit may be off, but it is something that sounds like girl.

    maybe squirrel LOL
(had a notion he might not be in that tree alone HAHAHA)

    "hey secret squirrel" LMFAO

I think that's the whole point!!!!!!!
  • I've always liked to think he said "I see the light" especially since earlier in the song he sings the wonderful line " have you the belief that the road ahead ascends off into the light?"

Still, I wonder what was in Eddie's head??????

  • this has been bugging me for years too!! now ive got some good things to work off!! thanks:D
  • i always thought it sounds like "i see the light"

Do you see the way that tree bends? Does it inspire?
Leaning out to catch the sun's rays...a lesson to be applied...
Are you gettin' something out of this all-encompassing trip?

    i see the light..............
Delight, delight, delight in our youth

  • It's sure a toughie. I mean, I've got a few live albums with PT and it never goes off into that end bit, just a screechy guitar from Mike, so who knows, maybe it was all just improv on the day!

I used a tool called Audistrip which isolates the vocals. There's a lot going on here with multiple, overlapping vocal tracks and effects. From what I can kind of hear, it's "I see your head up, I see your armor, I see my armor, I see my armor".
