Yellow Ledbetter...

This song has definetley hit me big lately, I dont know why. I guess cause its just been so long since I've heard it. I recently have been listening to The Pixies and The Strokes and just trying to expand my musical horizons. Anyway, to me, this song totally represents death and losing someone very close to you. I feel this way mainly cause of the line, " And they called and I said that I want what I said, And then I call out again". The unsealed letter I think is almost like a letter to God but since he doesnt have to send it for God to know what he wants, it remains unsealed. But God "calls out" to him anyway and he says that he "wants what he said"(which is his loved one back), but he knows he can't have her, so he "calls out again".

but yah, thats me. reply back, I want know how other people look at this song.

P.S. its sooo hard to learn on the guitar, damn that Mike, damn him, he is so good.
Paint a picture forty shades of gray.
Light your pillow. Lay back. Watch the flames.
I'll tell a story but no one would listen that long.

Fuck tradition. No one's safe from harm.
Wait a living. Cup and curse these arms.
After having seen all that they saw.

to me the letter is a letter from the Dept of Defense... the person singing doesn't have to open it to know what it is saying... a loved one of theirs is not coming back...

so they are crying out, but it doesn't matter...

the other side is the soldier being afraid or confronting death... "I don't wanna stay" and knowing that they are likely going home in
"the box or the bag" a coffin or a body bag...

This is probably influenced by the recent live changes to emphasize a dead solider... but that is how I hear it and sing it when my band plays
