Significance of numbered shirts the band wears

I am sure this is a dumb question and probably has been addressed before but what is the meaning behind the black and white number shirts various band members wear from time to time? 

I searched a bit but couldn’t find a thread about this.

    The 21 EV wears is a shirt from the Roberto Clemente museum. The 90 shirt is an old skateboard company that Chris Cornell and Kim Thayil wore over the years.

    Very cool, thanks for the info! I kniw I have noticed 50 and 20 as well.
