It's a great song, one that made me realize that BINAURAL was the roughest gem in the PJ catalog. That album just gets better and better as the years go by.

No other song has touched my soul so much...by PJ, or any other band for that matter. This month marks a 2 year anniversary that I lost the closest person to me. Never lost anyone close to me before and when it happened, BAM...had to be the closest person to me. :( Such is life. Way personal I know, but I just wanna say that i did NOT know how to cope with this. I didnt know how to be strong, hopeful etc. I felt like no one around me understood what I was going through and while offering support (which I am grateful for) it was only comforting to an extent. I felt so empty and dead inside. Then along came LIGHT YEARS...completely reborn to me, completely made me feel reborn. Therapy. Spoke to me, healed me, let me know it was all gonna be ok...made me remember with smiles instead of tears. Made me grateful for all I HAD with this beautiful person instead of dreading everything that I would no longer be able to have with them. This song totally saved me in my darkest time. A super bright light. Puts a positive spin on everything. It just oozes with strength and makes acceptance seem possible.

This is just one of those songs that connect to you. It all feels so personal. I absolutely love it. Words and music alike, it really is a gorgeous, gorgeous GEM. SUCH a special song. :)

I went out to the San Pedro coast today to go fishing off shore. I brought my CD player and this song came on, so damn powerful.

Sorry to hear about that Lydia, I hope everything is okay now. :)
Napoleon's mother couldn't make it to his coronation. But when he commissioned it, Napoleon told David to paint her in as if she were there, right in the center. Even though she couldn't be there physically he brought her into his life through sheer force of will. There to share in his greatness.

Do you know what my father gave me for my tenth birthday? A copy of The Will to Power. "Behold the Superman - man is something to be overcome." Sun Tzu, Machiavelli, Nietzsche, they were the voices that nurtured me after my mother died. My father made every question a quiz, every choice a test. Second best was for losers, compassion for the weak, trust no one. Those were the lessons I grew up with.

The man of tomorrow is shaped by his battles today.

In life, the road to darkness is a journey, not a light switch.

    Sentimentality is synonymous with vulnerability

It's like the German poet Rilke said - a person isn't who they are during the last conversation you had with them - they're who they've been throughout your whole relationship

I agree, this song really does have SO much power.

And thanks PickleRL. Sadly it never seems to go away, and with each passing day/month/year it sure as hell doesn't seem to get easier....but thanks to songs such as this one, it can make you look at things a different way and fuel you with strength, transfer life and happiness straight into you. It's beautiful.

These lines are always ringing in my head,...

...coaching me, reminding me to live life to the absolute fullest cuze it could all be gone at the blink of an eye. Enjoy everything and everyone that surrounds you. Let it all soak in, bathe in the beauty that is life! Take nothing and no one for granted! So preachy. haha. But really though, this song just digs deep like that. Such a life changer. :) Ahhh the power of music. The best therapy/medicine/friend.

This song will always remind me of an article I just read in Glamour. I know, you turn off now that you've heard that magazine name...heh. But there was a lady with breast cancer who wrote her story about her last few weeks. She said she wanted to leave a montage of songs behind to represent how she felt...and Light Years was one of them. I don't think I'll ever forget that. The article said she died a few days before the mag was published.
bugs in the way...I feel about you

  • this is also my fave song from binaural. almost a pop song it's so catchy. very pretty lyrics. it's a gem.
...caught a bolt of lightning, cursed the day he let it go...
  • i've used hammers made out of wood
i have played games with pieces and rules
i undeciphered tricks at the bar
but now you're gone, i haven't figured out why
i've come up with riddles and jokes about war
i've figured out numbers and what they're for
i've understood feelings and i've understood words
but how could you be taken away?
    and wherever you've gone
    and wherever we might go
it don't seem fair...today just disappeared
your light's reflected now, reflected from afar
we were but stones, your light made us stars
    with heavy breath, awakened regrets
back pages and days alone that could have been spent, together..
    but we were miles apart
every inch between us becomes light years now
no time to be void or save up on life
you got to spend it all..
    and wherever you've gone
    and wherever we might go
it don't seem fair...you seemed to like it here
your light's reflected now, reflected from afar
we were but stones, your light made us stars
    and wherever you've gone
    and wherever we might go
it don't seem fair...today just disappeared
your light's reflected now, reflected from afar
we were but stones, your light made us stars

one of my favorite songs...always makes me think of my dad...he died 6 years ago

    probably eddie's best lyrics
we were but stones....your light made us stars
  • A great song indeed. I am a Nothingman fan as #1. But I agree with what another poster said earlier, Binaural is the roughest of the albums but as time goes on my appreciation of it grows.
".....this land is mine, this land is free
i'll do what i want, but irresponsibly

  • Light Years is easily one of my favorite PJ songs. I wish they'd play it live more often.

    touching!

I am glad it it is 9/12 right now... I will always play light years on 9/11... many times!

    !!!
  • Glad to use my first post on such a great song.

Light Years gets me emotional every time I listen to it, and I haven't even lost someone terribly close to me.

I can't imagine how hard the lyrics will hit when I have a similar experience to get through.
