Indifference

I've just realized that for the past couple months of my relationship that just ended (over a year and a half in high school) I think I may have been playing the role of the other half in Indifference.. the indifferent half. Like I didn't put enough effort into it because I felt the connection was drying up.

Jesus..

Just sharing.

It's a pretty powerful song.
Come on pilgrim you know he loves you..

I sort of re-discovered Indifference today after wachting the Live at the Garden DVD. Gave me goosebumps!

  • I will light the match this morning, so I won't be alone
Watch as she lies silent, for soon light will be gone
Oh I will stand arms outstretched, pretend I'm free to roam
Oh I will make my way, through, one more day in...hell

How much difference does it make
How much difference does it make...

I will hold the candle, till it burns up my arm
I'll keep takin' punches, until their will grows tired
Oh I will stare the sun down, until my eyes go blind
Hey I won't change direction, and I won't change my mind

how much difference does it make
how much difference does it make..
    how much difference...

I'll swallow poison, until I grow immune
I will scream my lungs out till it fills this room

    How much difference
    How much difference
How much difference does it make
How much difference does it make...

When something gets this bad it is time to get out.

Definately a powerful song. You can feel it in Ed's voice.
Oh he fills it up with the love of a girl...

if i were to get up on stage and sing just one song with pj, it would be indifference. :)
    hear my name
    take a good look
    this could be the day
    hold my hand
    lie beside me
    i just need to say
  • I have to admit I never actually liked this song until I heard it live in Dublin and it really got me. It was definitely one of the highlights of the concert and the crowd singing was amazing.
    The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
    Verona??? it's all surmountable

  • love this lyric

I'll keep takin' punches, until their will grows tired
Had my eyes peeled both wide open, and I got a glimpse
Of my innocence... got back my inner sense...

Glad you joined the winning team finally ;)

Right on, one of my favorite lines, if not my absolute favorite, of all time. I didn't realize how powerful and meaningful the song is until years after Vs. was released....I guess I needed to do a little more living and then that line made complete sense to me
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all
  • this song is amazing...the line "I will scream my lungs out til it fills this room" always makes me smile. the first time i heard this song was at a concert in 2005 and when Ed sang that line and it really did fill the huge room. the way Ed sings the studio version gives me chills, there is so much emotion pouring out of him. i cant begin to express how i feel about this song...i just dont know...

Really powerful song... especially when it just nails exactly how you feel when you're listening to it. When I saw them play it live in Boston this year it was even better, cause you could barely hear Ed the crowd was so loud.
And before his first step... He's off again...

I absolutely love this song, but is the L@TG version the one with Ben Harper? If so...he ruins it for me.

  • I was about 22 when i first heard this song. So about 1 year later after a long phone call with a recent ex whom i married 4 years later, this song made me drive a bit further than i had expected. I lived in San Diego and was driving home to PT. Loma and missed the turn and ended up in Oceanside before i realized what i had done. To this day though the song has evolved with my life and pulls me along. Sorry for the long winded comment. I could have written 10 pages or so.

I will not fourth that... why does he ruin it for you? Granted Ed has a much more fitting voice for the song, but I mean, a good song is a good song. And Ben Harper doesn't have a BAD voice, so I guess I just don't get how he would ruin it... Care to explain?
And before his first step... He's off again...

it's so powerful and every line has it's place..not a word is an excess

someone here mentioned that he was the indifferent one...but i don't think that that is the context of this song

I think it's about unrequitted love.

And in the last 2 months I've played the part of both charecters in the song to the teeth.

p.s. sorry about my english :-)
  • You're right it's more about a loss than an unrequitted relationship. Still I've caught a really profound interpretation for the latter, even if it's not true.

That doesn't change my situation being exactly like it though, honestly.

The match line could be a drug reference,.. A killing the lonliness sort of ordeal.

Or even more likely a metaphor to his lover. A match burns brilliantly for a few seconds and disappears. You strike a match it's there and gone the next instant like he knows his love will or has done.

    your english is great btw.

Just curious if you eventually broke the relationship off or as the indifferent one, if you waited for her to?

I cried when they played it live in Antwerp :o

Fact is, that these lines can mean what you want them to mean...
if you want them to be about love, well, they are, but if you want them to be about friendship, business, life in general...they can be that too :)

Life can make you feel so alone, but hey, how much difference does it make?
