    I've mentioned this on another thread, and I'll say it here JUST IN CASE it's an option for you ... 

    All these shirts seem to shrink, even though they say "Pre-shrunk Cotton." I buy a size up so I can dry them and not stress about accidentally drying one and having it suddenly be too small. So if you're a natural L and you have an XL, I'd say there's a very solid chance you could dry it and it would come down to a very reasonable version of a L. The only exceptions are the ones that are poly/cotton blends, which I don't think the one in question is. 

    Of course, if this is old news, then sorry for telling you what you already know, and I'll wish you good luck in the search!

    Thanks but have done that with other short with (seems like) the same material, but still a bit too big.  Guess my other option is to work on my beer belly
