Red mosquito/man is the devil
He's your neighboor cause he's always there, next to you, always trying to tempt you. To bite you in this case. Even when you're trying to build something good, to create something good he's always there 2 steps ahead of you.
"while you're climbing up slippery hills" <-- life is a slippery hill, you want to climb it, but it's not that easy, devil's is closer to you than you think, 2 steps ahead of you, to remind you that you're not gonna live forever.
i think that eddie was trying to say that you can't LIVE if you don't remember you're destined to DIE sooner or later.
