so what do y'all think this wonderful, wonderful song is about?

I think its about isolation and reflection, which is pretty damn broad...

more specifically, i guesse you could say its abotu putting youself above other people and then the isolation you face as a result, and then finally about gaining a new awareness of yourself and others, and growing up.

how's this interpretation hold up in yer opinions

    Growing up and growing apart from some of those people in your life you feel closest to, and then finding out it's all part of the process of growing up and getting older. Of course in Ed's case it's much more drastic because of his stardom at the time. Naivety gives way to experience, and you realize that the more you learn the less you know.
