The pianist plays to an audience
of one during a tornado warning.
Her fingers ache with memories applause
based of graceful ovations while grunting
windows deign to quit their day jobs. In France
practice sessions scheduled with the waking
sun's hustle of illuminated skies
dropped to long-term reminisces falling.

A lone musician in a wooden floored
room exchanging musical centuries
of style like the devil. Her protected
reputation strung in the storm clock freeze
will resume bold when the storm has ended,
and her low bow concludes her night appeased.

Concert 1, Concert 2, Concert 3 are based on a Jacob Lawrence painting "Concert." It was painted in 1952 and is in the Herbert F. Johnson Museum at Cornell University. I haven't found it online, but it's a cool painting.
