What would you say is the meaning og the lyrics in "State of love and trust"? The unplugged version is on of my favourite PJ-song.....
"
I know I was born and I know that I'll die
The in between is mine
I am mine

I love this song as well, and for me I think it has something to do with the idea of suicide and wondering should he pull the trigger or not, not really being able to decide, on one hand he says I'll do this one myself but on the other hand he says help me from my myself, maybe he's looking for someone to be able in a state of love and trust, ultimately a cry for help.

But maybe this interpretation is a bit sad, who knows...

i think the suicide thing is like sparked by him feeling guilty for taking some kind of sexual advantage of someone or something maybe....the first verse seems to say that to me...then he feels the guilt er w/e.
all these burning battlefields are now behind us, life has brought us here together to remind us, that love will rise above it all and just keep growin, life keeps flowing and every moment starts right here with us

  • "State of Love and Trust", if I'm not mistaken, is the state motto or on the flag of Washington. It has some kind of link to Washington. The suicide references made are most likely made because, at least for a while, Seattle/Washington had the highest suicide rate in the nation.

    can anyone confirmn this?
Canada, says Ament, holds a special place in the band's heart because of its international policies and its decision to stay out of the war in Iraq.

  • That's weird, because you're right, I can't find a damn thing that relates the saying "State of Love and Trust" to Washington, yet I know I've seen it somewhere. Guess I was mistaken. Sorry.

The thoughts of suicide is one thing, but what does the title mean?

    being on heroin...

if i rember correctly at the Mansfield (Boston) 03 show nite one eddie talks about Mike making a "deal with the devil" before they played this song, and as far as i know it refers to heroin. consaquently i believe the song is about herion addictions (like andy wood, layne staley, kurt cobain and yes, Mike...)

I am pretty sure that on Washington's State car plates in the early 90's (and perhaps still today) their little tag line was state of love and trust... kinda like how new jersey is the garden state.
