I agree ballparks aren't ideal for concerts. But I see it as a compromise with the band. Its obvious to me they don't like touring anymore, and I probably wouldn't either at their age with families so I can't blame them. Its their way to play only a handful of shows and still reach most of their fans (and still make a lot of money too). The only other options are a full tour which I don't see happening anymore, or a shortened tour like this but at normal venues where many fans are left without tickets. Out of those options I'll take a ballpark show.
And it's also nice to be outside in the summer.

Not a very organized event. Not sure how anyone can dispute that. There was so little signage as to what line to stand in and no one seemed to have a clue, including the staff.
Having one 10C line for Res and GA that then forked at the very end was a very bad idea.
Everyone got in and it was a solid show, but this stuff needs to be ran better.
The beer ticketing thing was probably the stupidest thing I've ever seen in my life. I polled a few staff members and they all agreed it was a monumentally idiotic system.

Because it's a NCAA stadium, and they don't usually handle alcohol sales unless it's NOT a college event going on. Not saying I like it if I was going, but NCAA games do not sell beer/booze, so it's always a mess when college venues have to deal with something they aren't used to dealing with all the time...

I wouldn't agree that stadiums are no place, but they definitely aren't the same as basketball and hockey arenas. The worst seat in a hockey arena would still be equivalent to seats on the field in a baseball stadium. Only those seats would raised and still have a better view than those on a baseball field. One is 3 times as big, they can't really be compared.

Not true. NCAA doesn't ban colleges from selling beer. University of Cincinnati sells beer, etc at all football and bball games. It's either a conference decision or the individual university.
Its a concert off the beaten path. Enjoy it. They wont be playing shows forever. You got in. It took a while. Apparently beer was purchased differently. You still got 29 great tunes
I'll take Wrigley (or any other professional outdoor stadium) over Alpine Valley (or any other garbage outdoor ampitheater) any day. They are roughly the same size venues but Wrigley has: 1) an actual city to hang out in; 2) public transportation up the wazoo so you don't have to drive; 3) actual seats instead of a 45 degree angled slope for the 80% of people not lucky enough to get pavilion seats; 4) legitimate, experienced employees who've been working there for 20+ years so they know how to handle security lines and concessions.

Ended up going to some restaurant and asking for direction, Dennis Rodman's limo driver was pulling out of the parking lot as we pulled in after doing the same. Lost for about 2 hours, showed up as they took the stage. I think it was about 2 hours to get out of the parking lot too, just sitting still not even moving.

I agree with you on some of those points....but I would much rather "HEAR" them at Alpine. The sound there is amazing, because they knew what they were doing with acoustics. And there are seats up front, instead of GA. Getting out of Alpine is a nightmare, but I actually love the atmosphere at Alpine better than stadium shows. I would much rather drive up to Alpine at 10AM, tailgate all day and hang out with PJ people, rather than pay 8 dollars for a beer in a bar with no room to move, and needing to take 3 forms of transportation to get 10 miles.
Dont get me wrong...Wrigley is fine. I will see them at Wrigley, at United Center, or anywhere else they play . I'm 95% there to see them play, and 5% in it for the rest of it.

It's sad reading the negative Missoula comments. I loved it there 20 years ago. It was my first real PJ show. The state felt so free with it's sections of highways with out speed limits. The you can drink and drive as long as your not over the legal limit rule (which a cop told us about). The random Canadian girl we ran into those told us never to date American men.... lol. The badass crazy storm that blew over the night we got into town (two nights before the show). We were tenting at the KOA, retreated into the car, and rented a cabin at the KOA for the 2nd night.
My memories of the venue are amazing. I don't remember any big problems getting in. I bought my first poster at an outside merch booth that had no fuss and no lineup. I remember thinking the hill behind the venue was super cool because people were up there watching the sold out show. Goodness was a pretty good opener and Mike McCready came out to play with them.
The concert was amazing. No one complained that it was only 2 hours Some guy got to propose to his GF on stage. Another kid got up on stage and was about to get tackled by security but Ed showed mercy and calmed them down. The pit was pretty friend (But old school enough you could mosh up to the front). I lost track of my friend at the beginning but we found each other crowd surfing to yellow ledbetter.
I have so many positive memories of what I consider to be my first Pearl Jam show (technically the 1st being a lollapalooza 40 minute afternoon set, that was powerful but short). I seriously thought about going back this year as I have so many fond memories of the city, the state, and the venue. It's too bad a lot of people didn't get the amazing memories I have of the place. I thought it was an amazing place for a concert in 1998 and I thought the town had a great atmosphere.
I'll take Wrigley (or any other professional outdoor stadium) over Alpine Valley (or any other garbage outdoor ampitheater) any day. Sat with Rodman both nights....or by him. Chris Chelios was right next to us. I disagree about getting in and out.....never had an issue there and I've been there a lot. It's not quick in and out but has never been any worse than trying to get out of parking lot at a show in a building
