That's a pretty common mistake. It's "a larger one's feet" but yeah, a lot of people have thought it was that one.

I thought it was "older one's feet" like respect for your elders that modern society doesn't have

Meaning to suck-up to a person of greater social status.

I'm not sure if this song is supposed to be analogous with something, or perhaps referring to a movie or something.

Rats do most of these things, however only approx. 1% of the time. The song is awesome anyway.

yep, that's exactly what i hear too. i don't care what the real lyrics are, to me its all about olajuwon (thats a hard name to spell)

Aha yes vaguely I reacly seeing a picture of him. The name Hakeem does sound formilair. Olajuwan does not.

for the longest time i thought it was olajuwan, and just figured it was an obvious jeff basketball reference. "larger one's feet" actually makes loads more sense though, thank you

Ben is a rat befriended by a boy in a movie by the same name.

Michael Jackson wrote a song for the movie called Ben containing the above lyric. That's where Ed borrows it from.

I'm taking this from the well-circulated Pearl Jam FAQ (this one was from http://www.lukin.com but it's the same most places on the Web):

Ben is in reference to the Michael Jackson song "Ben". "Ben" was the song from the 70's movie also named "Ben" which was a sequel to the movie "Willard". Willard was a movie about a young loner who befriends a rat named Ben. Ben turns into a killer rat that leads other rats into harming others, etc. The killer rat returns in the movie sequel called "Ben". Eddie Vedder has always said that he was a big Motown fan and a big Jackson 5 fan when he was a young boy. He has said that one of the first records he ever listened to was "ABC" by the Jackson 5 and he gets "chills" when he sees the Motown logo. And yes, in the Atlanta April 03, 1994 show, when Eddie says "Michael Jackson is innocent", it IS in reference to Michael Jackson and the molestation charges against him at the time.

Yes. Hakeem Olajuwon was a center for the Houston Rockets. He was about 7 foot tall, maybe an inch or so shorter, and was one of the better centers in the NBA in the 80s and early to mid 90s.
