Thumbin My Way

Ooooh what a pretty song

It makes me fall in love all over again

i have not been home since you left long ago
i'm thumbing my way back to heaven
counting steps, walking backwards on the road
i'm counting my way back to heaven
i can't be free with what's locked inside of me
if there was a key, you took it in your hand
there's no wrong or right, but i'm sure there's good and bad
the questions linger overhead
no matter how cold the winter, there's a springtime ahead
i'm thumbing my way back to heaven
i wish that i could hold you
i wish that i had
thinking 'bout heaven
i let go of a rope, thinking that's what held me back
and in time i've realized, it's now wrapped around my neck
i can't see what's next, from this lonely overpass
hang my head and count my steps, as another car goes past
all the rusted signs we ignore throughout our lives
choosing the shiny ones instead
i turned my back, now there's no turning back
no matter how cold the winter, there's a springtime ahead
i smile, but who am i kidding?
i'm just walking the miles, every once in a while i'll get a ride
i'm thumbing my way back to heaven
thumbing my way back to heaven
i'm thumbing my way back to heaven...

It gives me goosepimples!

Not really. He doesn't do anything out of the ordinary. Not saying he's bad, I just think he gets the correct amount of credit he's given.

I wholeheartedly agree. "All the rusted signs, we ignore throughout our lives....choosin' the shiny ones instead." and "No matter how cold the winter, there's a spring time ahead." Two of the best lines ever written, EVER, in my meager opinion. They are So poigniant in so many people's lies, it's surreal. Thank you PJ...
Underneath this smile lies everything...How I choose to feel, is how I AM!

One of my most favourite "recent" PJ songs is Love Boat Captain, the title itself was pure unadulterated genius

Man I'm so glad to see appreciation for this song! I havent seen much recently and listening to it always makes me shiver. It's so amazing.

As for the comment about Ed's guitar playing. He is an amazing guitarist. His riffs etc are mostly simple but the way he puts them together is just so original, he's truly one of a kind :D

Yeah the song has something to it, more than we know as fans obvisouly, Ed pulled that shit from somewhere deep. First time I heard it, I think I played it 10 times. Have you seen the video for it that you can download through the PJ website? Pretty sweet

On this Message Board he gets the credit he deserves but in general, I think he is considered just some grunge guy who sang "Jeremy". While in reality he is a great songwriter and a good guitar player. I guess it's relative. Good compared to who? Well Bono can play and sing at the same time but Ed's playing is more on the level of maybe John Lennon or maybe one day like Bob Dylan. I just think he is always wrinting cooler tunes on the guitar

Sadly, the same goes for the entire band.

    fucking beautiful lyrics....
So that is how I learned the lesson that everyone is alone. And your eyes must do some raining if you are ever going to grow. But when crying don't help and you can't compose yourself. It is best to compose a poem, an honest longing or simple song of hope.
    That is why I'm singing
