Second Choice

I walked to the second choice because you
were locked past opening time. I walked past
the sprightly green cafe with not-great brew
and welcoming furniture. I walked fast
across the two-way street, past homeless, two
men on either side of the street. The vast
craving pulled tiny tricks, divulging clues
of pen and paper, and sitting at last.

What you lost with your poor staff management
includes sales of a mocha, a muffin,
and a travel mug. Wednesday sales that dent
my weekly budget with your branded sign
are posted for the second choice. The scent
of ringing sales extracts what could have been.
