And a lot of artists are unable to defend themselves against such theft because that is money that they do not have. I have seen artist friends have to close down their studios over things like that.Milestone said:

For instance, that's obviously an Old English 40 ounce bottle of beer in the image. Should we notify the beer company?
While we're at it....isn't EMEK's Rome poster a little bit too similar to Ames Metallica? I don't know. Art imitates art.
I am an artist. As an artist, employed by an artist and working at one of the top 10 galleries in the nation, it is considered uncool and we have fired artists for that.
Art can imitate art. However, art shouldn't steal from someone's livelihood.
Do not buy stolen image art. Do not create stolen image art.

Fair enough. I do feel that an incredibly high % of concert posters are borrowed themes. That's what makes them so clever and interesting in some cases. One of my favorite Ames posters of all time is Pittsburgh 2003, where it's an obvious "borrowed" image of MAD Magazine's Alfred E. Neuman. Frankly, I thought that was a generally accepted principle in concert art....to make a play on personal images, corporate images, cartoon characters, city landmarks, (i.e. copywritten or trademarked, but recognizable themes). The reason I thought the blatant "borrowing" of ideas were generally accepted is because it's so common for concert art to borrow themes.deadendp said:Art can imitate art. If I held true to not buying stolen image art, I may as well stop collecting concert posters. Especially the ones that borrow or steal from our Native American friends (plenty of those in Pearl Jam and Grateful Dead art which I collect).
Hell, one of the most coveted PJ posters of all time (San Diego 1998) is a blatant rip off of "The Endless Summer" movie poster. But that one is considered "cool" rather than stolen art. Doesn't that fit into the "stealing from someone's livlihood" category? I wonder how the Transformers creators feel about Ames 2015 effort. How about the Ames Donkey Kong poster? Cracker Jacks anyone? Should I continue?

My best guess in nearly every case that you’ve mentioned (and then some) is that the poster artist sought permission from, and was granted permission by, the original artist of, or corporation that owns the rights to, the imagery to which an homage was paid.Milestone said:

It’s ironic that we are speaking about ripping off his artwork when the whole design was lifted from the 1975 Topps baseball card set.dankind said:

So should this Thompson artist seek permission from Topps or Cliver? Or both? Not being a smart ass....I'm truly interested.dankind said:And permission was likely sought and granted.
Topps for the original design. Cliver for the skull and colors theme? Klausen for the sickle theme, which really resembles Klausen Washington DC from years past....

I highly doubt Topps would give him permission to piss off half the consumer public by putting an anti trump image in their design.dankind said:

We aren’t entirely sure that permission wasn’t granted—also, it could be a Cliver mail-in, though I doubt that—but I’d guess start with Cliver and see what he says about Topps.Milestone said:

My posters ALWAYS get left sticking out in the mailbox. I have to have them shipped to my mom's house as it is the only way for them to be delivered correctly. I have complained to the postmaster many times. Also when I get a package that needs to be signed for, they always leave the slip in the mailbox and do not attempt to get the signature....it's the worst!Gern Blansten said:

Now I think I'm just waiting on Klausen Boston and the wine.
We called the post office and they said they should definitely NOT leave it hanging out of the mailbox. Such bullshitPost edited by Redrumh2o on0 -

Got a notification that my Fenway 2 boot shipped. Took a fair while as I ordered it the day it went on sale but I did order Milan and Padova too. Will let you know when it gets to Wellington but I'm sure most of those of you who ordered it the day it went on sale will get it sooner than I.Stars are suns to other people.
