Waiting for Pastry

I brew my coffee at home, but sometimes
it's best paired with pastry before work time
so I walk driven in the humid slime
of DC summer air gasping out rhymes.

At 7 am this cafe opens,
but pastry staff deliver the filled bins
closer to 8, so expectations den
tough internal exclamations of, "When?!"

Horrible disappointment haunts this space
from those who just buy coffee. Database
of hunger listed in their faces grace
the unused, unoccupied pastry case.

A hungry customer is always right.
Change schedules to deliver at twightlight.

I like this one. I can picture these hungary, sad, waiting people!
