SEATTLE – The Seattle Storm’s all-time leading scorer and the WNBA’s all-time assists leader, point guard Sue Bird has announced that she will join iconic Seattle-native band Pearl Jam in an effort to fight homelessness in Seattle.

“Having been part of the Storm for 17 years, I’ve really enjoyed spending time in the community, and to be able to play for this city, you really feel like you’re part of something bigger,” said Bird. “The homeless population in Seattle needs our help. They all have a story, they are just as much a part of this city as everybody else. I’m honored to partner with Pearl Jam and The Home Shows for this initiative.”

As part of The Home Shows initiative, Bird, in partnership with Ames Bros., has designed a custom pair of shoes that she will wear when she makes her WNBA-record 11th All-Star appearance on Saturday, July 28 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Postgame, the shoes will be signed by Bird and auctioned off, with proceeds going to support people experiencing homelessness. Fans can bid on the game-worn shoes starting today through Monday, July 30 at midnight PDT. Tip-off is set for 3:30pm/ET on ABC by clicking here.

Over the past 28 years, Seattle’s homelessness population has grown by 40%. The region’s homeless population is now the third-largest in the country, with over 12,000 people living without shelter on any given night. On Aug. 8 and Aug. 10, Pearl Jam will play ‘The Home Shows’ at Seattle’s Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners, two concerts with one goal: banding together to fight homelessness. These shows are about shining a spotlight on the problem and solutions in the city and Pacific Northwest region. To date, over $10 million dollars has been committed to The Home Shows initiative from 60+ organizations.
