**All or None**

It's a hopeless... situation
And I'm starting to believe
That this hopeless... situation
Is what I'm trying to achieve
But I try
To run on
Towards
All or none,... all or none
Here's the selfless confession
Leading me back to war
Can we help that,.. our destinations
Are the ones we've been before
I still try
To run on
Towards all
Or none,... all or none
To myself I... surrender
To the one I'll never please
But I still try,.. to run on
I still try,.. to run on
But it's
All or none,... all or none.
And I'm starting to believe
That this hopeless... situation
Is what I'm trying to achieve
But I try
To run on
Towards
All or none,... all or none
Here's the selfless confession
Leading me back to war
Can we help that,.. our destinations
Are the ones we've been before
I still try
To run on
Towards all
Or none,... all or none
To myself I... surrender
To the one I'll never please
But I still try,.. to run on
I still try,.. to run on
But it's
All or none,... all or none.

When Ed sings "To myself I... surrender
To the one I'll never please" especially on Benaroya Hall.....I just get chills!!! Such a haunting song.
Show your love for "All or None."
Is it just me or does all or none kick ass
I do remember the old thread...but when I searched it didn't come up.
Your right about the chills man...that version is utterly amazing.

All or None
For each song I review I listen to it 3 times one after the other, while I'm looking at the lyrics.
This is the first song where it seems the music fits the words just right, the music and words fit the title just right, and it's ironic that the song is the last on the album. It is the only PJ song that reminds me of an haiku. Many people don't realize what a haiku is, it is more than just a short poem, it is a short poem that emphasizes the tangible within a well of starkness. Now, there's not really much that's noted as tangible in this song, but the well of starkness is obvious; it is in the lyrics, it is in the music, it is in the placement of the song as the last of the book. As the words even include the words hopeless but before surrender it's like it's the process of coming to grips with the starkness, and the first step is the surrender.
The meaning probably doesn't fit so easily, but since I love haiku, and I was reminded of that poetry form with this song, I just ran with it.
It also reminded me of While My Guitar Gently Weeps because of the starkness of the music. The words are very different, and I think although they may hint at the same notion, I think All or None is more focused.
The risk I took was calculated, but man, am I bad at math - The Mincing Mockingbird
Like Ms. Haiku said, the words and the music fit together perfectly. There was a period when I used to listen to this song all the time, as it was a perfect reflection of the situation I was in at that point. I kept playing it over and over before the Zagreb concert last September, hoping I might hear it and guess what... I did. When I heard the first few notes, I started weeping and shaking, not believing that I was getting my song played at my first PJ concert ever. This song has always been special to me, but after hearing it live under the circumstances mentioned above, all those feelings have been multiplied by an infinite amount of times...
So you see, just saying that I love "All or None" would be an understatement...
