This is complete bullshit. The Showbox needs to be saved. Wish PJ would just buy the damn thing. Change the homeshows to raise money to save the Showbox, or at least some of the money. Would rather see my money go towards saving a Seattle treasure.
That property probably costs something like $80 million or something crazy like that, lol. I don't think PJ can really afford it, and I don't think a fundraiser would cut it either! I do hope the city somehow saves it though.... perhaps the developers could be forced to build so that the original Showbox is incorporated into the design... Though I doubt the rich buyers of the condo development will be very into living above a music venue.
Thats the rub. Even if it is considered a historic landmark, unfortunately I don't think that saves it. I think its fairly easy to get around that with construction. Can't they just keep part of a wall intact and build everything around it? The Key Arena roof has designation for example. They plan to build a completely new building with very little of the original building remaining.

Sure, that too. The very sad reality is that with prime real estate like this - and it is PRIME prime real estate - when hundreds of millions of dollars are involved, nothing else matters very much as far as the people governing everything goes, and that includes the rich, not only politicians. But you better believe Seattle's politicians are benefiting from such real estate development too. Real estate development is one of the shadiest things going.

I feel your pain people, it's like when they knocked the Astoria theatre down in London to make way for the Crossrail project, it was absolutely gutting.
