good for you, every time I hear this song I can see Ed smiling (I've seen him doing that on a concert when he was singing smile)
It was a special kind of smile, if you know what I mean.
You could hear in his voice that he was smiling

I love the intro to Smile at (I think) East Troy 2000; Ed is talking about writing in his notebook and how the song came from something a friend wrote in his notebook and that he should get like a penny for each sale of No Code, which would add up to $20, then he said $100... etc. Great show, highly recommend.

What's not to like...the intro., the bassline. It's got depth, too. Basically upbeat, but then his voice sounds so plaintive when he sings "I miss you already, I miss you always, I miss you already, I miss you all day..." I feel this way about my mom, who died 8 years ago. I miss her, but she still makes me smile. She's over my shoulder, all around...just like this song.
