For me, I think it means -- and at the same time contradicts the whole song in a way -- that we spend much of our life wanting/wishing for more but never taking the time to realize and experience how fortunate we really are.
This line gives me this awesome visual image. I love how Eddie's lyrics can be so visual sometime. That may be my favorite part of his writing abilities.
