I don't think there are any loopholes or shady deals going on with your typical real estate investor setting up LLC's to own the properties. Nothing illegal or nefarious going on there. I'm not a lawyer but would suspect most lawyers would recommend to purchase property through an LLC so if someone slips and falls on your property that you could limit the liability to just the assets of the LLC (or try to). You can use LLC units for gifting/estate purposes and transfer of ownership. When someone has a lot of money and investments things can get complicated, not illegal.
Now, if Hannity is doing something illegal, then it is shady regardless of what legal entities he would be using to hide it. I just think the term shell company has a negative connotation to it and is probably intentional used by the author to convince the reader there is something wrong.
I can't stand Sean Hannity. I think he is a despicable person and dangerous to America. Free country though so I am fine with him having a radio program and tv program.
I didn't see the 600 number. I saw that there were 30 LLC's.
I would bet if you were an American and you and a friend thought it would be a good investment to purchase some real estate and lease it, that you would setup an LLC to do it. And then let's say it worked out well and you wanted to invest in another property and bring in a second friend to invest. You would setup another LLC. Five years later you might have invested in four more properties and you are up to 6 different LLC's. Your motivation likely wouldn't be privacy because you aren't a famous person (to my knowledge).
But if you were a famous person, having LLC's and not have everyone know what you own could be a little bonus. Some people like privacy.

I can't stand Hannity, I wish he'd go off the air. But all this hype and this article seem like a poor attempt by the rest of the media to make mountains out of mole hills.
Even if there is nothing illegal behind the scenes, its sleazy as hell, especially for a "journalist."
I think the other thing that has people pissed off at him is that he made a big stink about Cohen being raided, and how wrong it was, never disclosing to his viewers that he had a conflict of interest in reporting or editorializing about the story. So here's yet another example where Hannity failed to disclose personal interests while doing opinion pieces that his low-information viewers mistake as news. He's a fraud.
"...I changed by not changing at all..."
Clear conflict of interest... could you imagine if it was the otherside? Trump would break twitter telling about it
Hannity proved to be a total fraud, but his watchers dont care in the slightest. Just talk about evil Hillary and they suck it up like guppies
