A Big Tree

It’s always a surprise when a crack makes room
those roots of the tree tunnel through hard brown dirt
slowly growing, it just breaks into a barrier
a bit and a tip at a time, too slow to see
too quiet to hear, 
a hundred year old tree owns the ground it stands on
as well as the sky it fills
