today’s NASCAR is just too vanilla.

saw a 30 for 30 on Janet Guthrie…didn’t realize she jumped into NASCAR and was pretty good and earned the respect of (most of) the good ol’ boys.
Shirley Muldowney is another trail blazer.  Check her story out.  It’s drag racing but still a great story.
cha cha had a great team, I think. lack of a money team held janet back. she couldn’t get up to qualifying speed in her first attempt at indy but aj foyt let her drive his backup car and she turned laps that would have put her in the field….but it was the car, not the driver, who qualified and aj couldn’t just “give her” his backup car.
That is the thing with these "little teams".  They have talented drivers but not the equipment.  It costs a ton of money to make a car in NASCAR.
  • So the race season is over.  Congrats to Logano for his third cup championship.  His teammate almost caught him to take that chip away.  My boy Lord Byron finished a distant 3rd.  They didn't have enough top end on the straight ways to catch up.

Props to 23XI racing for finishing 4th in owner points.  Those guys are the little engine that could out there.  Small potatoes among the giants.  9 points separated 1st and 4th in owner points.  5th was in the far away distance.

Fun season.  That kid Hocevar will end up w ROY but if he doesn't stop wrecking people he won't have much pf a career.

Not nearly enough talk about the pace car wrecking. I’ve never seen anything like that. Could have been real bad.
    Tell the captain
    'This boats not safe
    And we're drowning.'

omg ! i FORGOT TO MENTION THAT!!!!  Michael Jordan got a kick out of that.  I'm pretty sure they kicked him out of driving it for the rest of the day.

You know it's bad when the "safety Driver" crashes, lol.
  • I didn't do one post this season... So here we go for the last race in PHX...

    It was a doozy.

You had 4 cars left for the championship.  My boy Byron, Larson, Brsicoe and Hamelin.

Hamelin was on fire and led most of the race.  I had some hope for Byron when he was in clean air in the lead.  He led 50 something laps.

So every one except Byron had some sort of car trouble.  Tires running flat, clutch problems.  This was a race made for a movie.  Way too many things going on to seem real.

So final laps of the the yellow to green.  Hamelin takes off like a rocket,  Byron had the lead for half a lap then Hamelin was gone.

Closeups of Coach Gibbs with a concerned look.  The race isn't over yet.

3 laps to go and the man who is suing NASCAR will have his first ever championship. X311 racing will have a drivers championship.  Michael Jordans love for motorsports will be realized with a cup championship and then the story changed...

Byron, whom hasn't had any car problems, gets a flat...

    Caution comes out.

EVERYONE pits.  Most cars optioned for 2 tires.  Hamelin gets 4 and loses a bunch of positions.

Restart in overtime is Green to white checkered.

They go off and go 3 wide.

Hamelins car makes up grounds but not enough. Kyle Larson, the driver whom almost didn't have a job in racing anymore, given a second chance, wins his second Cup.

The interviews after were elation and utter disappointment.

I feel really, really bad for Denny Hamelin.  It was nice to have  Hendricks car win it but man did I want Hamelin to get one.

    Talk about bad luck.

Should he have taken only 2 tires?

    We will never know.

    See you in February.

I'm surprised there were only two crashes on the final lap of the Daytona. I think I only watched like 20 minutes of it. Congrats to Tyler Reddick though.

Good race.  Pissed that Byron was in a crash from someones tire being loose and breaking...

Toyota wins.  Michael Jordan is proud owner of a Daytona 500 victory. He is not the first black owner though to win.  Brad Daugherty, a Tar Heel alumni gets that honor.

Was very happy for team 23XI.  They should have had a championship last year but that eluded them.

People are trying to make something of Jordan messing w a kid.  Not sure what the hell they are going on about.

    Congrats to Reddick.
