Garden!!!! Tens Overlooked Gem!

Ok with so many great songs on Ten, its easy for us to forget about one when we list great songs or whatever.

The one I see left out a lot is Garden. It is hauntingly beautiful and the imagry in the Lyrics is amazing.

I have yet to see this one live, but hopefully one day the boys will play it for me.

Garden

She don't wander in here. Don't wander in here. She, she don't wander in here. Don't wander in here.

The direction of the eye. So misleading.
The defection of the soul. Nauseously quick.
I don't question our existence.
I just question our modern needs.

She don't wander in here. Don't wander in here. She, she don't wander in here.

I will walk with my hands bound. I will walk with my face blood.
I will walk with my shadow flag into your garden. Garden of stone. Yeah.

After all is done and we're still alone. I won't be taken.
Yet I'll go with my hands bound. I will walk with my face blood.
I will walk with my shadow flag into your garden. Garden of stone. Yeah.

I don't show. I don't share. I don't need, yeah, what you have to give. Yeah.

Ooh, I will walk with my hands bound. I will walk with my face blood.
I will walk with my shadow flag into your garden, garden. Oh.
I will walk with my hands bound. I will walk into your garden. Garden of stone.

I don't know. I don't care. I don't need you for me to live. Yeah, yeah.
Uh huh huh. (x8)

  • i've never heard a version that has sounded as good as the 94 radio show from atl.
  • ten is a classic from start to finish, but garden has always been one of my faves. i'd love to hear it live...

Garden does seem a bit underrated.. :(

    but I sure love it.
I love the lyrics, they seem so.. true and honest.

    I especially like these lines.
    I don't question our existence.
I just question our modern needs.

but all the other words are also touching. these lines are just probably the ones I've given most thought..

Garden sure is something I'd really really like to see live.
"Don't be faint-hearted, I have a solution! We shall go and commandeer some small craft, then drift at leisure until we happen upon another ideal place for our waterside supper with riparian entertainments."
  • yeh great song.

when i first learned to play it on the guitar i couldnt stop playing it. it just sounds so cool.
  • mmmmm.. absolutely Love this song..
black and even flow hooked my attention, but garden reeled me in for ever.

The direction of the eye.. so misleading.
The defection of the soul.. nauseously quick.

i think it deserves a listen right now, thanks.
    change begins with discontent.
  • Garden was the first pj song i ever learned to play on guitar!!!

Still comes out as a party peice now and again!!!
When I was born, the doctor came out to the waiting room and said to my father, I'm very sorry. We did everything we could. But he pulled through......
  • Probably one of the heaviest songs they've ever done. Do kind of miss it but can understand why they don't play it anymore.

I agree...Garden is underrated, it's one of the best songs in Ten I think. This song is amazingly haunting and just so damn beautiful.

"After all is done and we're still alone. I won't be taken.
Yet I'll go with my hands bound. I will walk with my face blood.

I will walk with my shadow flag into your garden. Garden of stone. Yeah."
"All the strength that you might think would disappear, resolving..."
  • Do you guys feel that this song is about the whole Religon/Cemetary, thing? Where people say that the song tells about how Eddie won't be trapped by religon, because that seems to be the popular idea amongst people I talk to.

GARDEN OF STONE...I mean really, how could I possibly deny a song like this? ;)

haha. Seriously though....I agree Mel, this one does seemed over looked. I love Garden. This intro is like no other...so absolutely gorgeous, it just has you right from the start. All twirly & hypnotic. :o I agree with eMMI, I've always thought these lines were incredibly powerful "I don't question our existence. I just question our modern needs." :o I love the groove of this song. The way it builds---goes from being all quiet to rockin. It's one of those slower but rockin jams that you can just get totally lost in. :o This solo is heavenly as well. I definitely get lost in that badboy, that entire break really. Ed's voice is gentle too, but also so intense! Damn, and when he gets towards the end of the song he just unleashes it all!! *chills* Fuckin amazing!!!

I'd also be extremely happy if this one was busted out live. I was hoping and praying we'd get it at MSG ;)...but I guess it just wasn't the right time.

MUCH LOVE for GARDEN! Good call on this thread Mel! :)

It truly wasn't one of my favorites when Ten came out. There were just too many good songs on that cd. But listening to it now I really love it. I heard it live in SD and LV. I think it's time for them to play it live again!

We only saw it live because they only had two albums out at the time. Limited material. LOL. But truly, they should bring it back!

    I agree, that's my favorite.

    Don't wander in this shit....
  • THANK YOU!!! I think this song has powerful, intense, and almost painful lyrics backed by an amazingly unique and chilling sound! The song creates so much emotion and imagination with in me every single time I hear it. I never get tired of Garden and it certainly should be praised. I think this song is a fine example of what rock should be. It's songs like Garden that make you realize what so many predictably mundane tunes, that are currently topping the charts, lack.
  • This song is so damn good.. The finger picking part to the guitars is so awesome.

I totally agree, why don't they play it anymore?
    Seems the more you make
    equals the loneliness you get
  • Yeah they really need to play that song live much more often. It's so powerful on the album I can only imagine how awesome it would be live. OOO GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS

A "new" GARDEN of STONE for us all! Hey, 2 versions? More to love! :D Wooo! I fuckin love how this band mixes it up like that. :o

The groove and power has been majorly CHUNKIFIED in this new version. It's the best! The intro is so dark and chunked out! UGH! And oooooh, the part that always attacks~~> Ed at the very end?? Spine tingling goodness. Sounding fierce as hell! It's the 90's and then some folks. And this solo?!?! This band is on FIYAH!

    Woooooooow!

THANK YOU SUPER PEARL JAM!!!!!!! :D
