I'm sorry I just don't get it and everyone else does
And before his first step... He's off again...

One of my favorites.
"Low Light"
Clouds roll by
Reeling is what they say
Or is it just my way?
Wind blows by, low light
Side-tracked, low light
Can't see my tracks, your scent-way back
Can I be here all alone?
Clear a path to my home
Blood runs dry
Books and jealousy tell me wrong
All I feel, calm
Voice blows by, low light
Car crash, low light
Can't wear my mask, your first, my last
Voice goes by
Two birds is what they'll see
Getting lost upon their way
Wind rolls by, low light
Eye sight, low light
I need the light
I'll find my way from wrong, what's real?
The dream I see
i think it was written after a long night after being awake for 24 hours+ and just having a strange experience on the way home. i don't think you can explain this song entirely, it's a little mysterious. i just love the imagery - the car crash, the birds, the blood running dry, etc. jeff proved himself as a songwriter with this track.
Another habit says its long overdue
Another habit like an unwanted friend
I'm so happy with my righteous self
Thank you finally!
After careful review, I have decided that "Low Light"
(from YIELD, nonetheless) is about the consumption of
massive quantities of Natural Light. Evidence is as
follows:
"Low Light" - Ed understands that we spend a lot of
money on bootlegs and like to drink all day without
passing out by 6pm, so we all go buy cheap (low) light
beer (light). Low Light is about Natural Light.
"Clouds roll by" - There ain't shit to do. Let's drink
"Reeling is what they say. Is it just my way?" - Is it
okay if I go to Thornton's and buy some Natty Light?
"Can I be here all alone? Clear a path to my home" - I
drank all night and everyone's asleep. Take my drunk
ass home!
"Blood runs dry" - I'm dehydrated from all this
Natural Light
"Two birds is what they'll see" - They're so fucked up
they're seeing shit
"Getting lost upon their way" - They're drunk, too.
"All I feel is calm" - Dude I'm drinking my 40 of NL,
and and fuckin chilling.
"Carrrrrrrrr crash" - Way too much Natural Light.
"Your first, my last" - This is your first one, but
I'm fucking done. I just hit Rex with a bottle of NL
when I threw it off the back deck.
"Eeeeeeeeeyesight" - so fucked up you can't see
"I need the light" - need I say more?
"What's real our dream I see" - I'm just going to
chill with my NL and think about shit.
There you go. Natural Light IS the Low Light. Fuck yeah.
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
Well I guess that's another way to look at it. Thanks lol
"Can I be here all alone?
Clear a path to my home"
It's a pretty song, but sometimes when I hear it, I just drift off thinking about other stuff and forgot that the song is even on :(
I don't get the hype for this one I'm afraid, but kudos to Fanch for clearing up those confusing lines...

"Make our day"
I love the song, it's one of my all time favorites, it's just that I don't understand what the lyrics are about.
There are lots of songs without an especific meaning...I would say most of them...just let the words go into your head and let them send you images, smells, memories...and maybe you´ll figure out what this song is about
Greetings
Right, Last Kiss.
Okay so in Low Light we have:
Your first, my last"
Last kiss? Last what?
Low Light talks about a "car crash", just like Last Kiss.
I think Low Light is either a different viewpoint of Last Kiss or Ed somehow re-wrote it.
When to smile and just what to say
They say have your own fun...

"Make our day"
i'll find my way from wrong
what's real, our dream i see
i love this song, i am unable to put into words though what i think it means, i just love hearing it, it sends chills down my spine whenever i do, i think this song sums me up, although it has no specific meaning, it means everything, and yet nothing at the same time, id like this song to be played when i leave this world.
I reckon that its is all about the natural beauty of the earth as well as his own quest of life and that of his loved ones, and what will become of his life later down the track.
It is a very calm song with some sadness as well as combining an overall message of hope. Very easy to play on guitar and sing along with, which is good for me because i suck at singing.
"Books and Jealousy tell me wrong, all I feel is calm"- Thats beacuse he is such an honest careing and good person deep down.
Ray.
Edit: This is what Jeff said about it in a March 1998 Guitar World article:
GW: Your songs on Yield seem to reflect that process. "Pilate" is all frenzied frustration, while "Low Light" is like a hymn, serene and at peace. But why does Pilate have a dog?
AMENT: I think "Pilate" was the question I was asking myself, and "Low Light " was the answer, the realization. Have you ever read The Master and Margarita [by Mikhail Bulgakov]? I just read that book, and at the end they talk about Pontius Pilate being all alone on a mountain with his dog. He couldn't. sleep and he couldn't function. It really struck me hard, because at that point I was feeling very alone. I've always had this recurring dream about being old and just me and my dog sitting on the porch. It wasn't necessarily a sad dream or a premonition, but it did get me to thinking about why Pilate was so alone and freaked out. Then I realized he didn't get to finish his conversation with Jesus—that's why he can't function, because he didn't tie up the loose ends in his life. Later, I was playing the guitar, and I was hit so hard by this amazing, emotion. In that moment the words "low light" came out, and somehow those were the only words to explain what I was feeling. It was a kind of gratefulness at finding that place of calm and peace at my center and getting a glimpse of the person I could choose to be. It was the purest happiness that I've experienced in a long time, that particular emotion. God, I thought I was going to explode. I feel very lucky to have been able to put it down on tape that morning and work thorough it until it became a song.
If you hate something, don't you do it too
Yes thanks for posting this, I also read this article (I think someone posted a link in this thread?) and I forgot to post it here as an official answer from the man who wrote it.
