"And the gas in my tank,
Feels like money in the bank"
Is it just me or is this the cheesiest/lamest/corniest (w/e you wanna call it) line Eddie has ever written?

Yea - it's pretty bad. "I never knew soap made you taller" is lame, as well.
I like it better when the lyrics are more indirect........this latest album seemed to ignore that aspect. Probably my only complaint with the album come to think of it.
I think that line is an attempt at a nod to
When i'm watchin' my tv
And that man comes on to tell me
How white my shirts can be
But he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke
The same cigarettes as me
I can't get no, oh no no no
Hey hey hey, that's what i say
It just paints the right word picture and conveys the feeling perfectly to me. I can *see* the feeling.
But then I'm also especially fond of the song.

'It was then I knew I'd had enough,
Burned my credit card for fuel
Headed out to where the pavement turns to sand
With a one-way ticket to the land of truth
And my suitcase in my hand
How I lost my friends I still don't understand.'
Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"
Wembley? We all believe!
Copenhagen?? your light made us stars
Chicago 07? And love
What a different life
Had I not found this love with you
I've just never found this easy to listen too, i'm sure there will be worse but its allways been a pretty cringie one for me. ha ha

"It's the same everyday and the wave won't break
Tell you to pray, while the devils on their shoulder ".....Ed.
not really, when U think about how much the fuel in this case means to the guy getting away from the place he needs to get away from. i like it.
The risk I took was calculated, but man, am I bad at math - The Mincing Mockingbird
the part in Save You where Ed sings "why are ya hitting yourself, C'mon hit me instead" The day that cd came out, I went and bought it naturally, and as is my tradition I drove around while I listened to it ( the tradition is to drive during the entire first listen if not the second third and fourth,, for Riot Act it was Nine..I actually ran out of gas and had to swicth from car stereo to portable CD player while I walked to go get gas), well when it got to that part I was at this really fucked up intersection in the town where I lived.. and he sings that part and I just started laughing my ass off.. For some reason still unbeknownst to me.. the part in Steel Magnolias popped into my head!! that part where the mom is yelling "I just want to hit something!!!" and her friend grabs HER firend and holds the lady in front of herself and says "here hit weeza " and ever since.. that's what I think of when I hear that line.. don't know why.. but it stuck!!
Might be just me though, because I love the song. What is it that you don't like about it? I like it.
hehe.
like your sig. and location~~anyplace that supplies oxygen~~
hehe
I remember that line. great line!
Well, I've always liked that line--felt that it stands out from the song. Maybe that's why it may sound somewhat corny with the rest of the song's poetic flow?---I don't know. I kind of see what you're sayin', but in the end, I like that line. I think it really speaks to people, like myself, with little money and a huge gas bill. Ya know?--the people that live paycheck to paycheck so, as a result, every cent spent is taken seriously.
I agree. I like the line. I think the people who think it's lame or cheesy think so because they feel it's some kind of political message, but I don't think that's the point.
This is one of the funniest references on here for me! Haha.
We could sell tickets - who wants to take a wack a Weeza!
Thanks for the chuckle.
I don't get people like you... Everyone else had the ability to make their own opinion and reply in a good manner.
If you don't like the thread why post in it saying how shitty you think it is? You can just hit the "Back" button. It's in the top left corner of your screen.
At about $3 a gallon right now, this line rings even truer. And by the way, never criticize God again.....lol.
the other foot in the gutter
sweet smell that they adore
I think I'd rather smother
-The Replacements-
I used to think it was cheesy too but that was when I first heard it and equated it to the high gas prices last summer. When I heard it recently, it just meant "freedom" to me.....the same way money gives you freedom to go somewhere and it was no longer cheesy.

I have taken many drives listening to music to get away from things for a while. Not since I can't smoke anymore (almost 5 years but damn I still miss it) but it was very cleansing and centering.
i completely agree where brez is coming from
