  • do u guys know the nothing man version from like rockline or something like that where ed says at the beginning "this is for my friend matt feckinger (or something that sounds like that...)...matt wherever you are this is for you"????

more importantly, i only have it on tape. does anyone have a burned cd of this? that version is kickass. its so...mellow and slow and sedate, it gives me chills. i hold my breath practically when i hear it. *swoon*
"Me oh my oh, lost in Ohio ... I'm in Ohio high oh ... just making my way through Ohio where the sky is and the roads are long ... went back to Ohio and my city was gone..."

I think the song is amazing... it doesn't have a huge personal attachment like some other songs do, but it's definitely one of my favorites... I just listened to Vitalogy yesterday, and kept this song on repeat for probably half an hour.

I was really touched when i heard nothingman on the seattle boot of 2000 (second night), and when I saw it later on TB2000: waw, the way he stands there and sings it.... awesome!!!
-The only fucking reason you guys chant my name is cuz I'm the only guy in the band whose name has two syllables. We call Stone 'Stoney'. You could chant that, 'Stoney, Stoney' -EV

-Stone has the guts to fly here in a helicopter, but he's too scared to play breath -EV

    >SHOWBOX VERSION<

That's the one that really gets me. The power/emotion there is outta this world! Leaves me motionless. WOW!

You know I've always thought Nothingman was a gorgeous song, I just never had the slightest idea how much it would affect me live. I cried my eyes out at MSG 2, totally took me by surprise. I had no idea this song would do that to me. I just lost it. Very touching song and live...you just feel it even more. This really is one of those songs were Ed just pours his soul out. Eyes closed, pulling you in while he just pours it out. Amazing.

I agree Lyd. I cried during this song too. It just hit me during night 2 at MSG, you know the line "she once believe in every story he had to tell..." WOW, i just lost it. I cried. I thought I was the only one crying, but I looked, and Lyd was crying as well. that song is SO emotional live and it has to be experienced, especially w/your friends.:)

So true Nadia! That was an intense/amazing moment. I'm glad we shared it together.

The lines that really fuckin gets me are...

"some words when spoken can't be taken back"

"he who forgets, will be destined to remember"

Yeah. Very powerful song. Really blew me away live.

Like a lot of Eddie's songs it came about due to an incident. This one with Stone where he said there was going to be a big plane crash and he'd be the only survivor. Eddie said what? and he said "nothing man" and put out his cigarette. Eddie thought it would be a good song about a worthless guy like "nowhere man" by the beatles.

  • I only heard this live back in 98. I was hoping to get it this tour, but no luck. It's such a beautiful song. And like many others I think its Ed's voice that makes the lyrics much more powerful. Definitely one of my favorites.

I got this song at Dallas and MSG II. This song is SO beautiful. I hope you will get it on the next tour OnceDivided. :)

I actually cried when they played this at MSG II. It just hit me, I don't know why, either the fact that it was a miracle I was there, or something else. I turned to my friend, VEDHEAD27 and she was crying too. It was a very emotional song to me that night.

    Great song. Great memories.

Thanks MeddleDeal, maybe next time. I'm glad that you got to hear it and had such a great experience :)
  • Very personal song for me aswell. I was a leader on a retreat called Kairos. I basically had to give a deep personal story of my life. I got a song to open the speech with and a song to close it with. I opened it with Nothingman.

With me The Song i'm open does it
It was a dream, not a nightmare. A beautiful dream I could never imagined in a thousand nods. I saw this girl next to me, she wasn't beautiful until she smiled. And I felt that smile come at me in heat waves following. Soaking through my body and out my finger tips in shafts of color. And I knew somewhere in the world, somewhere, that there was love for me.

hmmm, we all wonder though. Stranger things HAVE happened. I know Mike, on the old, old ms boards, he made an appearance on there. I didn't witness it, but I have heard about it.

BTW-OnceDivided you are SO welcome!! It will be an awesome experience for you to see it live once again.:)

<---listening to the Dallas 2003 boot

This song is SO touching, love the way the song flows and it does it slowly.

To tell you the truth, I like this song for a long time now, but it did not have that much of an impact on me until MSG II, when I first heard the song, and then all of a sudden, tears started streaming down my face. The line that got to me was "she once believed in every story he had to tell" that is where I lost it. I turned over to look at my friend who was standing next to me, and she was crying as well, at the exact same time. Such an emotional song.

to this day I don't even know why we both started crying, I guess b/c we were actually there to enjoy the show together. :)

This song, so beautiful in oh so many ways.

thank u PJ, i'll NEVER get sick and tired of this song. :)
