I don’t consider myself politically (and I don’t mean that I don’t engage in learning about politics). I consider myself a principled person, and I support those whose principles and mine are in alignment.

Isn't that how we all choose our political allegiance?

I'm in the Far Out, Ma-a-a-a-a-a-a-n party.

No, seriously, I don't find much meaning in political labels any more.  It makes more sense to me to learn as much as reasonably possible about each issue, determine where I stand on the issue, be open to learning more about them and, when it feels right to me, take whatever actions I see worthwhile.

For example, I mentioned in the Global Warming thread that it is unfortunate this is seen as a partisan issue.  That seems absurd to me.  Environmental issues are not Democrat, Republican, Green, or Independent issues.  They're not even solely people issues.  They are Planet issues.  Now, to be sure, some political factions are more supportive of environmental issues, but that should not be a deciding factor in doing something about them.  Doing so has hampered our progress on things like global warming.

It's how I choose my "people allegiance"  I guess it's just how I choose or even distance myself - by character, actions, words.  No need for me to inject politics into the mix, as that'll happen on its own or by someone else.

    benjs, as always, well-said.

In my opinion the current Dem party is where the GOP was 30 years ago.  The current GOP is just off the scale stupid.

I agree with your second statement. The problem is... there are people that would disagree with us on that- insisting they are saying and doing what is necessary for the good of the country and the Lord.

This is just a misunderstanding based on vague language.
When Bob says "I got a free lunch today", he OBVIOUSLY means that he got a lunch without cost to himself, and he OBVIOUSLY doesn't mean he managed to find a lunch without cost at all.
So, for Bob, there truly is such a thing as a free lunch.
