Into the Wild is a great album but

the lyrics are all very sad. I know the general story behind the book/movie, so it's not totally surprising.

But so many lyrics are so sad.

"On bended knee is no way to be free" keeps hitting me in the forehead.

  • Is this an album like Avocado, a bit part like singles, or an album for a movie like more/obscurred by clouds? Cheers for any help.

Its an Eddie Vedder solo album, which is a soundtrack for the movie by the same name, Into the Wild.

All the songs are Written by Ed, except for two. "Hard Sun" and "society".

Ed covers those. But the whole album is Ed.

  • I disagree. I do understand it has a feeling of melancholy but I believe it is more of an optimistic album. Like the song rise. The optimism of leaving society. The beauty of nature. The chanting in "The Wolf" seems so spiritual like a call to nature. I can see it percieved as sad but I personally view the album as an optimistic, spiritual dance with nature.

I totally get what youre saying.....and in fact...the first part of the album gave me that feeling...

however, as I kept listening....and thinking about the story....just gets me sad....like what you give up to leave society.

  • I think it's wonderful. But does 'Setting Forth' end too abruptly? Another repeat of the chorus would have been nice. But it's a movie soundtrack i guess...
