Ten album gear questions

hey guys,

my my wife just bought me my first electric guitar. It’s a telecaster Nashville deluxe. I only have played acoustically. She also bought me a fender chamoion 20 amp. What do I need to get the ten album sound?  Any help is greatly appreciated!

thanks

Here are a couple links to gear pages if you want to go down the rabbit hole

It looks like your amp has quite a few effects that will come in handy.  reverb, delay, chorus, tremolo, etc

You might consider an overdrive pedal with a tube if you want a more 'authentic' tube sound.

imho, best thing I ever did for my sound was stereo amps.

None of this is really specific to the Ten album sound I guess...
  • they played marshall jcm 800s for their distortion and fender combos for their cleans.

i would recommend the Angry Charlie pedal by JHS. it is basically an 800 in a box. keep your amp at a cleaner setting and then step on Angry Charlie to get the distortion.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks man!!!

    greatly appreciated!!
  • This is going to get expensive lol.
  • Welcome and congrats! Some nice gear you got and good advice already above. Word to the wise though, chase your own sound rather than someone else’s. What sounds good to you is already informed by the guitarists who inspire you.

Check this out though for some additional ideas. These guys do a nice job.

    And Rabea can really play!

I can watch that over and over again just to hear him pronounce "Stone Gossard."

There are loads of "marshall in a box" type pedals which will get you there. I use an Xotic SL Drive which to my ears absolutely nails the Ten distorted sound with a clean setting on your amp (plus a bit of reverb). I think on the album they used Marshalls pushed with Ibanez Tube Screamers for the distorted tones.

  • I just bought an Orange amp and got a Tube Screamer 808 and it sounds good with a little reverb. I like Orange amps. I played though some fenders and Marshall’s and I liked the Orange better

Good choice. My next amp will be an Orange as well. Which one did you grab?
