Finding employment from abroad at a US multinational

Hi all,

My wife, son and myself are considering a semi-permanent move to the US. Hopefully the Jamily might help in getting some leads. I have a good resume as Program Manager with companies like Accenture, Ingram Micro and Vodafone (and a University background). The Seattle area would be excellent with Amazon, Starbucks, Microsoft or similar. But any help is appreciated to get in touch with a recruiter. Applying from a distance (Amsterdam) is difficult without some local guidance. Please send me a message if you can be of any help.

Many thanks!

  • You may want to go to a "Headhunter".  They are paid by companies to find you a nice fit with them.

Thanks tempo! Much appreciated. That might be something to do as an intermediate way. Any help from other fans would be much appreciated as well.

I would do some research regarding your eligibility to work in the U.S.

Thanks Joe, I am aware that I need visa sponshorsip from an employer.

  • Good luck - some good advice above.
Most people are fleeing this country at this time -- ambitious to move the family here in this climate.
I would suggest avoiding the largest cities and looking to find a mid-level city area that is experiencing some growth.  (More affordable housing, less traffic, etc.)
Not sure what city that would be, just a thought on potential desired location being highlighted before job hunting.  Having your family in an environment that fits might take priority over most things -- at least, for me.

Thanks Rob. I believe and hope that in 3 years time there might be another (positive) change of climate. And as my own city (Amsterdam) is being overrun by expats, I would like to try out the experience myself. If you are from Seattle, would you think that qualifies? That city is highly rated in Europe. It has my current focus, not because PJ is from there.

Hi -- Brett from suburban Philadelphia here.  :)
If I were looking from outside the states I would focus on Florida.  Great climate (they do have hurricanes, of course) and many of the cities are affordable and growing.  Many are not 'huge' as well and there are different markets depending on how much money you have available to buy a nice home for your family.  Believe the job market is strong there as well -- close to the beautiful ocean, lots of good airports, food, cultural things, etc.

I believe that Portland, Salt Lake City, and Seattle areas fit the growth market as well -- although for my two cents the weather is too gloomy in Portland and Seattle.  (I grew up in Vermont and know the weather can have an impact for some people.)

EDIT -- North Carolina is a great state as well from a growth/job/housing perspective.  Many affordable areas and a very diverse state.

I love the area I live in -- but there are enough people here.  Go to Florida!
