this song was me earlier today... life is a fun and funny journey...

i took a drive today
time to emancipate
i guess it was the beatings made me wise
but i'm not about to give thanks, or apologize
i couldn't breathe, holdin' me down
hand on my face, pushed to the ground
enmity gauged, united by fear
forced to endure what i could not forgive...
i seem to look away
wounds in the mirror waved
it wasn't my surface most defiled
head at your feet, fool to your crown
fist on my plate, swallowed it down
enmity gauged, united by fear
tried to endure what i could not forgive
saw things
saw things
saw things
saw things
clearer
clearer
once you, were in my...
rearview mirror...
i gather speed from you fucking with me
once and for all i'm far away
i hardly believe, finally the shades...are raised...
saw things so much clearer
once you, once you...
rearviewmirror...
saw things so much clearer
once you, once you...
rearviewmirror...

yes rvm. quite possibly the best driving/pissed off about something/need to get something out of my fucking mind song ever.

and the jam interlude that was added on the 2000 tour made this even more special
  • agreed phillyPJ-and the interlude rocks, especially when it all kicks back into the song :)

yea no shit thats the fucking best part. ....they have that interlude in the middle. all 5 guys are just jamming out. they all take turns doing some funky guitar shit...Stoney does some crazy shit also. Eddie is just straight jamming havin a good time....this goes on for what seems like 10 minutes...some all kinds of riffs going on...all improv!

then Jeff does his little Jeff stance. and starts back in with the bass line. then it just rocks out till the end when it's jam time again with the strobe lights flashing.

fucking RVM what a fucking song live. I fucking love it!!!!
  • I used to sing this song when this one woman that did me wrong was around. I used to look right at her durring the "saw things so much clearer...once you, once you.....REARVIEWMIRROR" part. She was all "why do you always sing that when I am around?", Se ya ho! I feel like MFC is a continuation of RVM.
    Lick my monkey!
  • i'm not a big fan of this song... i like it... but i'm not really into it

yea no doubt. for me RVM live is prolly 7-8 minutes of the best shit out there. f'n great!! I love it

**you a Wanksta and you aint got notin** ha ha!!
  • Thanks for the lyrics!
    This song rocks!!
Gotta put the past behind ya,
and be aware of those out to get ya.
    Love it!
  • This song is unique in that it's a take-no-prisoners rocker, but it's also extremely moving at the same time. And the lyrics are vague enough that people everywhere can put their own personal interpretation into the song...but the lyrics aren't so vague that they make no sense, or are idiotic. When I finally saw it live, I was moved to tears. In fact I was moved to tears before I saw it live, on TB2000. Go RVM!

seeing RVM live in all *it's glory*...is prolly the best 7-8 minutes of music you will every see at *any* concert.

bring on any competition and I will shoot it down left and right.

name any band that can match PJ's energy on RVM. I dare you. I double dog dare ya!!!!! I triple dog dare ya. ok you get the point

it is quite possibly the best rock-out song there is at any concert- I love it when one of my friends is listening to a boot I have on and hears the song and is like, wow, they really can rock still, and then they go and buy a CD or boot; nice to get the fans back into it if they've been away for awhile.

I absolutely love this song live and wish I would have heard it more this tour!!

I agree 110%. not only do the lyrics kick *major ass*. but you have the interlude jam, the Jeff bass line, the strobe lights, the final closing jam. and you Eddie and the whole crowd singing at the top of their lungs!!! great

I wish I could bottle that moment and carry it around all day. wait. I can!! thats why the bootlegs are so awesome!!!!

hell yes! when all the guys are in their own little zone yet all collectively grooving....gawddamn it's magic.

and this song is so cathartic, i love it.
  • Seriously...listening to RVM can quite often be a spiritual experience, and almost moving beyond description....and I know that, for me, it compliments perfectly whatever I'm going through in life...if I am feeling joyous, the song follows me there and it is a joyous song...if I am depressed, feeling like shit, then RVM crawls through the dirt with me....and if nothing much is going on in my life, I'm just gliding through on an even keel....RVM dares me to jump-start something, to blast open a hapenning...

    beautiful way of putting it.

i know when i first heard it i was dealing with some stuff in life, and had it on my headphones in my living room, and by the time i got to the "finally the shades are raised" part.... i found myself just crying. full out bawling. that was a moment where i knew this band would never cease to touch me.
  • yeah...I don't know how many times the "shades are raised" part has caused everything under my surface to bubble up. It's a song that is really about self-discovery, for me. How amazing it is.

  • i think it's the way ed sings this line, and how the music is just swelling, you can feel the motion pushing forward, it's hard to describe. it's a liberating moment, that line.
