When Chris Cornell died earlier this year it was a crushing blow for so many of us fans. Just a few months earlier, my son and I got to see Chris and the rest of Temple of the Dog at Madison Square Garden. We had front row seats and were ready for a once in a lifetime performance. Except that's not what we got. We saw Chris struggling to engage, to connect with his band mates and the crowd. We both remarked that he seemed off. Who knows if he was already in a tough mental space or if it was just an off night. Once the news came that Chris took his own life I felt a familiar pain and struggled for days. In the days following Chris' passing, rather than wallow in sadness, I learned to play and sing this song.
