~Show Some RVM Love~

okay, a raise of hands of who LOVES this song! :D

this song has gotten me through several rough times in my life, especially during my break up.

This song is TOO powerful. From the beginning to the middle of the song, and then the climaxic ending. what more can you ask for a song? This band just gives us TOO much. This song makes you want to sing w/every lyric and it gets you SO into it that you don't care who or what you are hitting. It is a great way to take out your frustrations. :D

i took a drive today
time to emancipate
i guess it was the beatings made me wise
but i'm not about to give thanks, or apologize
i couldn't breathe, holdin' me down
hand on my face, pushed to the ground
enmity gauged, united by fear
forced to endure what i could not forgive...
i seem to look away
wounds in the mirror waved
it wasn't my surface most defiled
head at your feet, fool to your crown
fist on my plate, swallowed it down
enmity gauged, united by fear
tried to endure what i could not forgive
saw things
saw things
saw things
saw things
clearer
clearer
once you, were in my...
rearview mirror...
i gather speed from you fucking with me
once and for all i'm far away
i hardly believe, finally the shades...are raised...
saw things so much clearer
once you, once you...
rearviewmirror...
saw things so much clearer
once you, once you...
rearviewmirror...

  • agreed...it's fucking intense, emotional, and uplifting all at once. You can definitely hear Ed singing and screaming those words with all the emotion in his heart. Fucking brilliant.
"I'll do whatever the song dictates - if it doesn't need a real lead, then I won't do one. But if it does, then I'll fuckin' go off." - Mike

"Japan is awesome; the fans there knew all the words to all the songs...at least phonetically." - Stone

"I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version." - EV

I agree! Nothing like flying down the freeway, wind in your hair, and RVM blasting in the background. Life is good! lol  (I did this yesterday)

I like how this song could relate to everything in a person's live, a break-up (which I used personally to get over it), independence, etc. This song is truly powerful, and even more powerful when you hear it live.

I agree don't_go_on_me, that you can sense Eddie's anger and raw emotions in the recorded verison and live.

Whenever I hear this song, it makes me want to jump up and scream at the lyrics, very much in the same way as "I Got Shit/ID"

  • I have to say I fell in love with Pearl Jam when I first heard this song. I was going threw a divorce from a man that always beat me and the song was just to real. From there I heard Black and I was hooked.

    that is great to hear.:)

To me, this song is about freedom from the obstacles you go through in life. It is also a great song to get your aggression out, thanks to the break down at the end of the song.

PJ smoked this tune in KC (Bonner Springs, KS) in 2000.. i think it was oct 12..

    "saw things so much clearer.."

the crowd was out of control!!
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green
