This was on Best Buy for $18.99 for the full 3lp set... it is thought it must have been a pricing mistake because it's far more elsewhere and I'm not sure if they caught it or not.

check their site for restock but the 18.99 set sold out a few days ago.

I had the house to myself tonight and cranked this. It's STELLAR. Totally gonna have to pick it up in vinyl.

Wonder why they went with the "Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross" moniker since Atticus is now a full-time NIN member?

Got my 3lp set the other day- it's not a gatefold just a heavyish sleeve with three records in nice sleeves.  Sounds awesome, the entire disc 1 sides a/b are pretty much ambient but discs 2/3 are super intense.  Really glad I picked this up because I went against my rule of "no soundtracks" when I got this.  It was too cheap not to though.

As in Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are the two official, full-time members of Nine Inch Nails.  Just wondering why they released it under "Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross" instead of "Nine Inch Nails."  Not a big deal.  Just a curiosity, that's all.

It'd be like PJ releasing their next album under the name "Ed, Stone, Jeff, Mike, & Matt" instead of "Pearl Jam."

I would assume it's because they're still not NIN when it's just the two of them. NIN isn't a two-man band. :)

Except they are.  NIN was only Trent until last year, when he added Atticus as a full-time member.

But when you go to a NIN concert there are more than 2 people on stage. Pretty sure NIN has never put on a show or released an album where those two are the only ones playing. Perhaps the "full-time member" status doesn't mean quite as much as you're assuming?

That's his touring band.  Of course there's more than two on stage.  Trent can't play all the instruments by himself.  When you buy a NIN album, it's all Trent.

Oh is it? I thought he had people work with him on the albums as well. If not, well, I guess they didn't call themselves NIN because they wanted the cache of having their actual names attached to a Ken Burns doc. ;) Or he just doesn't think of NIN as a two-man operation in any case. Or it's possible that the soundtrack for this isn't Trent and Atticus collaborating in any way that is similar to NIN. If they are just out in left field for the ST, and it doesn't even sound like NIN, then it would make good sense not to put that label on it.

i always assumed Trent Reznor was NIN, and various other musicians went on tour or helped make albums, but they always rotated, so it's more like a Trent Reznor solo project as the band lineup changes all the time.
  • Trent Reznor/NIN puts on one hell of a show.

Thread integrity, I was not aware that Trent and Atticus composed the Vietnam War Soundtrack when I first started watching the documentary.

I always assumed that NIN wasn't NIN unless it was specifically meant to be, with other people playing with him. I always thought of Trent on his own as going solo. I mean, he has often done solo work, and he's never once called himself NIN.

I'm trying to watch this documentary.  It seems really well done and obviously the background music is great, but it's so long.  At first I thought 10 episodes.. that seems doable.  Then the first ep is 1 hour 20 minutes... pretty long.

I'm finally up to episode 3 and it's almost a 2 hour long episode.

It almost has too much detail.  I'm having a hard time paying attention....

Maybe they'll do the whole soundtrack for the new one coming out with Jamie Lee Curtis coming back.

It's amazing what his output has been since 2005. I remember being in college when In Teeth came out, and it being so exciting since it had been since the late 90s since Trent had put anything out. Seems sober and happy now, and it shows in the music, and what's he's done since between NIN and these amazing soundtracks. Dude has reinvented himself with this.

I honestly think I had never heard a Halsey song before this past weekend when I decided to check out IICHLIWP based on Trent and Atticus producing. Wow, really great album and they did a great job with it. It's pretty much been on repeat since my first listen. Well worth checking out.
