Hartford overrated....My theory is that the shows in the South are tighter, more focused and better quality because the band feels they still have something to prove in the South and can't get bye on just crowd enthusiasm.0
-
Do you think the band has a choice in where they are playing? Not necessarily where, but as far as stadiums vs arenas/sheds? I assume they never dreamed of being a stadium act and playing to that many people in such a big venue is kind of numbing. I guess if it's put to them, "you can play 25 shows, be on the road for a couple months and make X amount of $$........or.........you can play 10 shows, be on the road for a few weeks, and make even more X amount of $$" they are going to take the latter.
I wonder how much say they have overall.0 -
I think they have the pull to do what they want, but they need a promoter to agree. I believe the band gets a fixed fee for the show plus merch and percentage of vending. So I think the promoter might say play 3 nights at United Center, tickets will be $50-$100 each and you will get $$$/night or play one night at Soldier Field, tickets will be $50-$200 each and you will get $$$.
While the band has a lot of pull because they have a loyal, rabid fanbase, I think people forget how many moving pieces there are.

Plenty of great crowds across the country.
Moline/Milwaukee/Denver run in 14 had great crowds
Just pointing out that great crowds are everywhere. My favorite shows have been unpopular shows. Seat location, people around you, setlist, the kind of day(s) you’ve had. All play into it

Have you not been to, or seen the setlists for the couple concerts here the last 20 years? They don't like playing here, it's why they never do and why the setlists are always average at best.Forever feeling the sting of Raleigh 20160

U.S. crowds for big bands are full of corporate guests and stuff that are in primo locations but couldn't care less about the music. At Wrigley II 2016 I was on the rail behind the little VIP section on Stone's side. It was full of guests and friends (including some we all know) and they werent even facing the stage most of the time, either talking or looking at their phones. I didn't see as much of that in Amsterdam and Italy in 2014.
It's what it is...big business. I've been trying to go to more small shows/newer bands and it's usually a way better experience.0 -
I'm at 103 and some of my highlights would be below. Basically, they are the shows that when I think about them I instantly can say that was an all-time great time. There are shows I've been to where people would be surprised they weren't listed, but there are a lot of variables involved (city, who you are with, what section you are in, tired, thinking about work, etc...) that impact my enjoyment level.
Champaign 2003, Mansfield III 2003, Toledo 2004, Grand Rapids 2004, Philly 2005, Vic Theater 2007, Columbia 2008, Philly III & IV 2009, PJ20, Amsterdam II 2012, Berlin 2012 (both), Missoula 2012, Wrigley 2013, Brooklyn II 2013, Charlottesville 2013, Oslo 2014, Leeds 2014, Moline 2014, Buenos Aires 2015, Greenville 2016, Quebec City 2016, Telluride 2016
That is pretty cool when 25% of the shows are just kick-ass, memories forever type of shows. And the other 78 aren't bad either!

I thought 2013 was pretty decent... at least it looked like it was from my shitass seats in the upper deck behind the stage.
I'll go to Seattle, usually do. Vancouver/Seattle are my locals shows. Both are roughly the same distance way. There have been pretty damn good Seattle shows. Seattle II '98, Seattle II '00, Both '02 shows were pretty good, Gorge 05, Gorge 06x2, '13

Zod said:The weird part about Seattle shows is that so many people aren't from Seattle, so people blame it on Seattle, but I'd be surprised if people from Seattle made up 30% of the audience.0
