these po’ folk down on their luck
I admire the musicianship of TP but
these songs he’s singing have no core
anymore
he is singing about these characters he makes up
these po’ folk he doesn’t understand
he’s above them not only financially
but even in the way that he doesn’t understand
their inner lives
he’s singing these songs as if these people
are cardboard oddities
only because his life is far too good now
there’s no way he can understand
their pure desperation
their pure poverty of hope
their pure prison of no options!
any rich bastard writing songs about poor folk
should lock himself in a two room apartment for a few months
and give himself a minimum wage salary to live on for a while
drive an old car that might break down without the money to fix it
date some desperate women without options
get a little hungry and thirsty for things he can’t buy
see how it feels!!!
then he might write some authentic songs about a poor guy
