I can’t stand portnoy when it comes to pizza. His dumb sayings like “football pie” kill me. Plus he barely knows the difference between margarita pies, basil, oregano etc . He’s a goof who likes one type of pizza and his scores mean nothing anymore. Hats off to him though for becoming the authority on pizza. Sorry I had to get that rant off my chest!

I dont really follow him but he happened to come down to my neck of the woods.  This is a really good pizza so he wasn't lying.  

His term "football pizza" is spot on for a bland, don't give a shit pie.  It's a good relatable term.  It's a pizza u eat watching sports while drinking beer without a care in the world.

So now, drive over the Atlantic beach bridge and come meet me for a slice and u be the judge.  It's like 25 minutes from where u surf.

i don’t doubt it’s great, I didn’t mean it like that. His high scores are usually good. He underscores tons of places because he only likes a specific type of pie, which is ridiculous imo.

Funny. We, tri-state area. are spoiled. I lived out west for 5 years. When I came back every slice was fantastic. Now I'm a little more of a snob about it too.

IMHO football pie is spot on. It's that generic pie made with mediocre ingredients in an oven that is not hot enough. I like his reviews, but do not always agree. CT NYC local. We know good pizza. I would like to see him review a Greek pie.

We dont have open pit places like you do in the south or out west by me.  We have a place called "Austin Kitchen" w one smoked rib option. Everything else is pub grub...
