He spoke about how 2 nights after the news he woke with a head full of big memories and could not stop thinking of them, and that he will remember all the great memories. He spoke of his love for all those affected and Chris's family and his brothers in the band and in Soundgarden.

Feel immensely honoured and privileged to have been at both Ed's first show since Chris' passing and the first show he addressed it at too.

Glen came on stage an Ed joked about fucking up a bit on Just Breathe. He then started playing with his thumbs, looked at the floor and started to talk about how he hadn't been addressing something. He said he lost one of his brothers two years ago in the click of a finger and that he's not good at accepting death.

"I did lose a friend," he said or something very close.

He then spoke about two nights after Chris' passing he was at a cabin near a lake. He woke up around 1:30am with intense memories of Chris. These memories would only last a minute, but the flood of them was enough to last hours. He said he had really looked up to his friend and in many ways he was an older brother to him.

Glen comforted him and the audience -- which had mostly been dead quiet -- gave him a standing ovation. It was deeply moving and I'm glad it sounds like Ed is starting to process the tragedy.

By the water, memories started arriving first like the big muscles, then as the late night went on, the little memories kept coming. And he was eventually grateful for having these thoughts, instead of sad.

He really seems like the process is under way...

    a powerful, cathartic evening.

When Eddie started talking about Chris, the crowd became so silent, like everyone stopped breathing for a while. It was beautiful and it felt like an honour to hear him talk about his friend. "And I will love him forever" he ended it, and that's something I will remember forever.

What a good night! Eddie sounded better than ever. Really beautiful and breathtaking show. Emotions raw and honest and powerful. A real work of art. I feel cleansed and speechless, yet I have so much to say. Thank god we still have music in this fucked up world. We need it more than ever and tonight was proof of that.

Eddie About  Chris in London 1 show tonight...:
    : " I will love him forever"

Sometimes it's hard to concentrate these days. I was thinking about the history of this building and the Bowie history. So I started to think about that and my mind began to wander. It's not a good...
So I haven't really been talking about some things and I kind of... now it feels like it's conspicuous because I lost a really close friend of mine, somebody who...(applause)
I'll say this too, I grew up as 4 boys, 4 brothers and I lost my brother 2 years ago tragically like that in an accident and after that and losing a few other people, I'm not good at it, meaning I'm not...I have not been willing to accept the reality and that's just how I'm dealing with it (applause starts)
    no, no, no, no
So I want to be there for the family, be there for the community, be there for my brothers in my band, certainly the brothers in his band. But these things will take time but my friend is going to be gone forever and I will just have to...
These things take time and I just want to send this out to everyone who was affected by it and they all back home and here appreciate it so deeply the support and the good thoughts of a man who was a ... you know he wasn't just a friend he was someone I looked up to like my older brother.
About two days after the news, I think it was the second night we were sleeping in this little cabin near the water, a place he would've loved. And all these memories started coming in about 1:30am like woke me up. Like big memories, memories I would think about all the time. Like the memories were big muscles.
And then I couldn't stop the memories. And trying to sleep it was like if the neighbours had the music playing and you couldn't stop it. But then it was fine because then it got into little memories. It just kept going and going and going. And I realised how lucky I was to have hours worth of...you know if each of these memories was quick and I had hours of them. How fortunate was I?! And I didn't want to be sad, wanted to be grateful not sad. I'm still thinking about those memories and I will live with those memories in my heart and I will...love him forever
    (Applause and standing ovation)

"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
    "..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."

  • Guys, as someone who was at a lot of the Temple shows last year and who actually was in Detroit too, hearing Eddie talk this way really helps. No pressure on him - he should feel free to express himself how and when he feels - but he's an eloquently guy and the loss here really hurts.

Memories as muscles is a powerful idea. Thank you :)

It was a wonderful, emotional evening.  Truly epic and so glad to be there.

Soft and eloquent, as well as rocking the roof!  Beautiful tribute to CC, and also to London.

A spot of Ed crowdsurfing for those lucky enough to be in the front stalls too :)

Man, this is a tough setlist to see.  My wife and I were supposed to come to both London shows from Maine, but after the Manchester attacks and a lot of worry from our kids we decided to cancel the trip.  Then after the latest attack the other day, which is when we were supposed to arrive in London, our family was so relieved we didn't go.  So now I have to really hold onto the hope that Ed comes back and plays in the US this Fall!

2 of my favorite Ed "jokes" from tonight...

Young Girl was wearing headphones-ear protection
    Ed says
"Mike McCready isn't here so I think you'll be ok"

Then later he's talking about hearing loss.
And his wife says he has selective hearing.
A girl on Mike's side yelled something
    And Ed says
"Ya know, I don't hear very well out of this ear, and I hate to say it, but that is Mike McCready's side... so you're gonna have to go over here (pointing to Stone's side)
otherwise you're just shit out of luck!"

    Very emotional night.

Stand outs for me were ukulele anthem and as always falling slowly.

Cannot wait to be back tonight.

I feel privileged to have witnessed that last night, a real honour.

To see someone you idolise put so much emotion into a performance and really bare his soul in front of thousands of people was an experience I will never forget.

Couldn't have put it any better. Tough seeing Ed talk about Chris like that. Also playing the organ with his back to the crowd singing Isn't It a Pity was powerful and emotional stuff. Ukulele Anthem was great fun though! And great support yet again from Glen.
