The NHL is trying to take away their ownership of the Rangers.

It all stems from a lawsuit the Dolans filed against the NHL last year when the NHL basically commandeered the Rangers website. The judge determined that while it was odd of the NHL to do that, they were well within the bounds of their contractual rights to do so. Now, the NHL is trying to get the Dolans removed because they feel they are trying to undermine the league. As much as I hate the Dolans (and I am a big Rangers fan), I have to side with them in this case against the NHL.

It's actually about the Rangers not wanting to conform to the NHL's website regulations. They didn't want to adhere to the standard format the league rolled out for all teams last season. The Rangers already lost a court battle over it, and now the league's pissy and trying to strip MSG/the Dolans of their ownership of the Rangers. It's all pretty ridiculous and I hope it doesn't effect y'all's getting into the show tonight.

Sorry about your tickets, but I can't understand how Isaiah Thomas has anything to do with it. Hope it works out...

As for the Rangers, the NHL levied fines of $100K per day against the Rangers in Spring of 2007 for having the gall to run their own team website and handle all marketing, promotions, merchandising, etc. The league insists that all of that is theirs to control. So the Rangers filed a suit to prevent the league from doing this. They lost the suit, but now the NHL is "counter-suing" them for filing suit against the league in the first place. and the ultimate outcome of that would be the Rangers no longer owned by MSG. In this case, believe it or not, the league is just trying to use bullying and intimidation tactics to set an example of the Rangers. They'll never take them from MSG, and even if they did, where would they then play and how stupid would the league be to ruin it's flagship, original six US franchise and the only US franchise in the top 6 money earners in the league?

So all of this commotion caused ticket problems yesterday??
I pledge to you a government that will not only work well, but wisely, its ability to act tempered by prudence, and its willingness to do good, balanced by the knowledge that government is never more dangerous than when our desire to have it help us blinds us to its great power to harm us.

  • as I understand it, part of the franchise agreement every team signs with the NHL when they take ownership states that teams can not sue the NHL, no matter what. the Rangers have sued the NHL 3 times. Therefore the NHL wants to take the team away from the Dolans. I haven't followed it very closely, I'm sure there are others who could speak on it better. especially Xavier McDaniel, as he seems to be our resident expert regarding all things MSG, especially if it involves isiah thomas somehow.

I think what the guy meant is that all that mess with that dickhead Isiah and what they've done to my beloved Knicks, rot in hell, Dolan, and all this crap with the Rangers and the way MSG, the corporation, is run by a family with more money than brains, more arrogance than competence, more greed than dignity, causes one fuck up after the other: like hires like. And the CONTEMPT for the people who go to the Garden, whether for a concert or a game or whatever boggles the mind. They actually despise the people who make them the textbook rich pigs that they are.

I hope everyone gets their tickets OK despite them; but then again, we're talking about the people who FINALLY sent Zeke to be head scout of Uzbekistan, where he bloody well belongs, only to turn Knick team management over to the Knights of Columbus...oh, I can't wait for November...
