Time | The Kalief Browder Story is a 6-part documentary series produced by Jay Z and Harvey Weinstein that tells the story of a teenage boy from the Bronx who spent three years on Rikers Island without ever being convicted. Matt Cameron recently watched the series and was incredibly moved by it. He wanted to do something to help Bronx-area teenagers in situations like Kalief’s avoid similar fates. Last week, Cameron made a donation of $10,000 through Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy Foundation to the Bronx Freedom Fund which includes a revolving fund to pay bail for people accused of misdemeanors; their goal is to keep people in their jobs, with their families, and out of jail while they await trial.

I saw an interview with that kid a few years ago. He was indeed a kid and they sent him to hell. Such a sad story.

Matt Cameron Directs $10K to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Many of us have lost people to suicide. Our hearts go out in equal measure to those who leave the world this way, and to those who are left behind to miss them.  If you have lost someone, it’s important to know that you are not alone. There is help and support available to you.   

Each year, more than 44,000 people die by suicide in the U.S. and for every suicide there are 25 attempts. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness, funding scientific research and providing resources and support to those affected by suicide.

Matt Cameron directed $10,000 from Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy Foundation to help AFSP reduce the suicide rate through their education and support programs to local communities across the U.S.
